marinehrnt
Just setting up my new 60 gallon tank and looking for some ideas on powerheads. I'm thinking that two Koralia 1050's with a wavemaker would be enough? I'm thinking of a mixed reef at some point in the future and want to get the correct powerheads the first time around. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
pnkrcklives
I have two 1050's in my 90 gallon. They work great. Wish I had the wave maker controller. But some day I will step up to a MP40es when I can afford it.
Mitchell
Yeah that sounds good. I have a 750 gph and a 1050 gph in my 55 gallon. This month Neptune is coming out with an apex jr that only costs $150, this would make a great wave maker. Mandinga
"...a mixed reef at some point in the future and want to get the correct powerheads the first time around." If you want to do it right the first time around, you have two choices: Tunze, or Vortech The tunze's are great options...you can always find them used, and they run quiet and smooth...and super powerful...and adjustable. Usually you can get two powerheads and a controller for less that $300 Of course an MP40ES would be your best option, but not many people are looking to shell out $400+ on a single powerhead....though you will probably never have to upgrade,

finch6013
I would go vortech. They look better, they run cooler, and the control of flow is great. Second option would be tunze, but you are going to spend almost as much money. Koralia is ok on the cheap, but they are prone to problems over time and look quite bulky. marinehrnt
Thanks for the input everyone. Sounds like the best solution is the Vortech or the Tunze. Both are a little more then I was planning on spending but from the sounds of it are worth the price in the long run. I'm trying to avoid buying cheap and buying twice. I'm assuming that I will need more than one?
Mitchell
I really don't think you need vortechs. I am using koralias and I am very happy with them and I plan on using koralias again in my 180 gallon. I say spend the $400 on coral. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Lowman
Spend the money right the first time and get the Vortech. You will not be sorry.
ThePremiumAquarium
Vortechs are amazing. I like koralias but they aren't even in the same league. Hit me up if I can help answer any questions on them or help with getting you some pumps
chewie
For Tunze, I would go with 2 6055's and a multicontroller. For Vortech, 2 MP20's I like em both. If you want to go cheap, skip the koralias and get the new maxijets. Much more reliable.
rgrcrain
My tank is 4 feet long. I'm assuming that I will need more than one? If your tank is 4' you should be fine with one. My tank is 6' so 2 work better.
