Bigjohnwoody
I changed my filter sock and bumped around my skimmer and it started creating trillions of microbubbles. My tank is cloudy with microbubbles. I can not for the life of me figure out why this is happening. It does seem that it is drawing less air form the downdraft tube (think thats what it's called). The jet tube seems to be very loose and that is what I am wondering is my problem. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks Currently the skimmer is unplugged and not running. Drew
I did something similar to a small maxijet the other day. Some how i loosened the housing (not sure what the bottom part is called) so it wasn't sucking water properly and it caused more bubbles.
grassi
Was it releasing microbubbles when new? Did you put it at the same height as before? You can use a small filter sock where to direct the skimmer output for a while and see if they go away
chewie
Was it a new sock? Did you check the impeller?
Bigjohnwoody
Gonna have to call someone tomorrow that sells bubblekings and see if they have ever heard about this problem. Nothing is different and it has never made microbubbles. I hope my tank is ok for a few days without a skimmer. May try the filter sock if I can fit it. Kris
I have the same thing happen when I change my filter socks. I have found in my case it's the water level is higher and when I get it back down it's fine and back to normal.
Bigjohnwoody
Was it a new sock? Did you check the impeller? Brand new sock. Could that be the reason? Never done this before?
chewie
Yup New socks make skimmers go nuts! Run carbon and rinse all new socks first!
Bigjohnwoody
I run carbon 24/7 and after it happened I pulled the sock out and rinsed it the rest of the way. Although the half in the water was already done for. Hopefully I can get the skimmer back on line. I will go try now
chewie
Clean the neck and use hot water to rinse the ish out of the sock and you'll be skimming in a day
impur
I always get microbubbles when i add a new sock as well.
Bigjohnwoody
Thanks for all the suggestions. It was definitely the filter sock as my skimmer is working great again. I had no idea a new sock could do that. This is my fourth sock and the first time I have seen this.
