finch6013
I am considering this for my 187 that is getting built. Anyone have experience with this brand or know of good or bad reviews? http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/products/protein-skimmers/bubble-magus-protein-skimmer/bubble-magus-bm-180-cscone-protein-skimmer.html
Lowman
[language filter] good skimmer. But I think there are better skimmers on the market for less money that that.
USCG CWO
I have one on my 150 and I have to say it rocks and very is adjustable. Makes foam like no other skimmer I have owned. I would not hesitate to buy another one. Shane
reefnjunkie
I was looking at the cone series, I ended up ordering the Nac9, its new and as such there is a little wait involved (laugh) I spent some time looking at skimmers, just ask grassi. Have you looked at avast? They have a DIY cone skimmer http://www.avastmarine.com/ssc/do/product/youbuilt/CS1-Cone-Skimmer-Kit Its just big enough for my tank

I have also owned several sicce pumps and have hated every one.
reefnjunkie
I have yet to get it, but I think that is becasue its a new product. I was also looking at the hero
grassi
I owned a NAC6 and I loved it. But for the other models, I think they are too expensive for what they are. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a good skimmer on the paper (pump, air intake, needlewheel) but I think that you have more options on the market for just a few bucks more. mytshall
I got a NAC7 and think it is a great skimmer. I have it on my 120g right now and it does a great job. I have considered upgrading to the 180 because i think the pump on mine is a bit loud
finch6013
The BRS price is a bit high. I can get this skimmer for about $360. I don't really want to spend more than $400 on a skimmer but I want something that will handle a 200g sps tank with a medium to heavy bio load

grassi
187 with sump? How stocked and with what? Using something else (refugium, pellets, gfo, carbon, zeo...)?
grassi
I just saw that you want to keep sps, sorry. Skimz KONE SK181 ATB Econo 840 Super Reef Octopus 5000 internal The new ATI Powercone series
finch6013
Those skimz knone skimmers look interesting. I couldn't find anyone that carries them though. Your post of the Reef octo got me to look at the 3000 internal version. If that is a good skimmer, it looks like it fits the bill price wise and on paper is rated for 300g. ReefStar
I should have a Deltec AP600 for sale soon if you are interested.

The skimz is not easy to find. But it is a really nice built piece of equipment. Rating on skimmers is somehow variable and marketing play a role on it too. Go with the 5000 int or 3000 ext for you volume and bioload
Aerixx
I have a bubble magus 3.5 and it does a great job, it is a little loud for my taste, but if you mod the return air hose by putting it in a medicine bottle it is completly silent. finch6013
I think its between the Bubble magus Nac9 and the super reef octo 3000 internal http://www.reefspecialty.com/virtuemart/12-protein-skimmers/164-bubble-magus/827-bubble-magus-nac9-skimmer.html http://www.reefspecialty.com/virtuemart/12-protein-skimmers/65-super-reef-octopus/103-super-reef-series/425-super-reef-octopus-3000-internal-protein-skimmer.html
finch6013
Thanks for everyone's help. I talked to Mike leonard at Reef specialty and he persuaded me to get the super reef octopus XP 3000 internal. This skimmer was a bit more than my budget but Mike was great to deal with and he gave me a discount that sealed the deal.
