Saltfinsax
Has anyone tried to take your old nasty reflectors and have them re-chromed or chromed as there not really chromed. I going to try and have a chrome shop look at them in a couple day to see what it would cost. I pretty sure chrome has copper in the making of it and if it got in the water it would bad news. But my fixture has the water shield that would keep it from ever getting in there. Cheaper yet would be to buy some chrome spray in a rattle can and see how that turns out. Anyways what your thoughts on the re-chroming?
reef165
Sounds like it may be worth looking into, but would stay away from trying rattle can crome, it usually turns out gray and not that shiny reflective as you would assume.
impur
If you got them rechromed you could over them in mylar. That will last and help the reflectivity a bunch.
Saltfinsax
Haven't made it to a shop yet, but was thinking if the aluminum reflectors get re chromed if that will slow the heat transfer down?
Algae
What brand of reflectors do you have and how many? Getting a plating shop to do em is gonna be spendy. I can get a replacement bank of 8 reflectors 48" for my Tek for around $85.

Is there much work done to the ends of those or could they be cut down to 24"ers with something as simple as drilling a couple mounting holes? Last time I got something chromed it was the bumpers on my 72 maverick...cost me about 120 a piece, but that was almost 20yrs ago.
steelhead77
Aluminum cannot be chromed. Aluminum is polished. Only ferrous metals can be chromed. Aluminum can be anodized (black, blue, red, clear etc.) but not chromed. Buy a tube of Simichrome, some cotton balls and go to town. In the end, I think you'll find it's easier to buy new ones. chewie
Either that or spray paint them flat white. You'd be amazed!
