reefgeek84
Hey man...My skimmer just started acting up...I took of the silencer on the end of the tube and it works like nothing ever happened...you might try that
impur
I'm not using the silencer. I found that it limited the amount of air into the skimmer. The problem with my skimmer is the venturi. It clogs after a few days. This weekend i'm boring it out and running flexible airline tubing down it as close to the impeller as i can get it. Is the venturi the what the tubing goes on top of? the tubing that connects to the silencer? If that makes any sense...
andy
Yeah, the silencer is connected to the tubing that provides the air to the venturi. Wikipedia has a pretty nice little article about the whole thing.
impur
The venturi is the grey fitting that goes onto the pump. That small rigid piece that stick out of it, that the flexible airline tubing connects to, that is where the buildup is happening. The silencer goes on the other end of the airline tubing, its black, has 2 openings.
reefgeek84
I tried to drill the whole bigger...that was a mistake...I am now down a skimmer until I get a replacement part and I had to brag and make phone calls to get it...I am very angry with myself. reefgeek84
What'd you do? I'm planning something like this: well since yours is in sump that might be ok...the black nut, will not seal to the gray piece properly and thus leak...
