siskiou
I was just in the process of setting up a calcium reactor for my second tank, but I guess it was old and brittle, and part of the lid broke when I tightened it. Now I'm back to ground zero, and need to diy something else. Question: is it really necessary to have a recirc pump on a reactor for a smaller tank (75G incl. sump), or will it be okay without? I was hoping to use the RO canister I have around to make the reactor.
Kshack
You need the recirculation pump. The flow through the reactor is very low and that is how the CO2 gets to the media in the reactor.
siskiou
Was afraid that would be the answer! For now, I'm trying to glue the rim back on and see how it goes. Also, if I added a second water input, could I feed two tanks from one reactor?
Kshack
Well, I guess you could, but it would be very difficult and not advised. You would be feeding from two sources, then distribute to two tanks. How are you going to get the proper amount going to each tank? You could potentially go away for the weekend and find all the water drained from tank "A", and overflowed into tank "B". Also, you could not dial in each tank as needs require because CO2 used could only be set for 1 tank and you could not change the output because you have input from another tank.
