Chadm73
Hello. Just set up a new tank today, and its acting like it flushing. The sump will drain down, then a rush of water comes rushing in, sounds like its flushing. Tried drilling a hole and inserting a piece of air line, but still doing it. 1200 gph pump, maybe over kill? Thanks for any advice!!

How many pipes do you have going to your sump? That will determine your options. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
cjmdh
My durso overflow does that when the air hole gets plugged. Sounds like your vent hole isn't large enough. Here are a couple of links that help me. http://gmacreef.com/ https://www.dursostandpipes.com/ Edited April 23, 2018 by cjmdh

Parzifal
Sounds like an intermittent siphon is being created causing the tank to “flush” and then refill. To to make it silent and not flush would mean creating a stable siphon by limiting the flow through the return using a valve (preferable gate valve). With only a single overflow; restricting the flow so the overflow is silent can be very risky. If a snail or a piece of nori covers the opening you will flood the room! If the only option is a single return pipe then my recommendation would be add a gate valve between the return pump and the main display and “dial” it down until you reach that sweet spot where the siphon isn’t created. do you have any pictures to help us diagnose the issue and offer solutions? Chadm73
Thank you. I will get some pics when I get home. I hooked this up the exact way I took it apart 2 days ago. There wasn't any valves in either line, and it ran very quietly. I drilled a hole in the return line last night and added a small piece of air line to no avail. I really appreciate the help. Chadm73
I was also reading that maybe the pump that is being used is to much. It's a 1200 gph pump for a 60 gallon cube. The pump was running a 72 gallon. Maybe a smaller pump? Thanks everyone!!
Sailingeric
I did this and it just about silenced my overflow draining. I could tinker with it a little more to silence it but I have not bothered with it since it is not too intrusive sound wise.

Chadm73
The drain line has 2 holes already drilled. I just drilled another small hole in the top, and it seems to be working perfect now. Thanks all for the pointer, videos, and advice. I do appreciate all your help!!
