SteveHash-fish20
Okay idk how bad this actually is, but I woke up and noticed black powder On my sand bed? This hasn't happened to me before and I believe it's my carbon from my back filter? But I'm not sure, I'm kid of just guessing cause I truly have no idea what else it could be, Bad day starting off today... (nono)DOH! Electrokate
siphon it out and make sure it does not happen again... that happened years ago to me and am still picking out pellets of carbon from the sump and sand bed. I don't think anything bad resulted but powder from carbon has been linked to HLLE so try not to let it happen again
SteveHash-fish20
Yeah I woke up and BAM! Black powder was in the crevices and what not also on my rocks, I have no fish and if I'm not mistaken does HLLE have to do with fish? Or am I wrong and thinking of something else. Will this damage the corals? And thanks again so much! Im more relived then I was earlier lol
Jeramy
Did you rinse you carbon befor adding it to the system?
Derbird
It shouldn't hurt anything. Prolonged exposure to carbon dust has been linked to HLLE (Head and lateral line erosion) but I have not heard of ill effect on corals. Like Electrokate said just try to fix what ever caused the carbon to be released
SteveHash-fish20
Did you rinse you carbon befor adding it to the system? Yeah I added it about a week ago, it's been fine just today I had the same sized black powder in my tank I took the carbon out because I think the bag has a hole in it, I can't seem to find it though

Blue Z Reef
What carbon are you using? If you are putting it in a bag yourself, try using the pellet type carbons, they tend to not be as dust crazy as the ground up crap. A good rinse is always in order before adding though
