grassi
After some work: Flow is now delivered by a 1" bulkhead + a 3/4 bulkhead + a closed loop (1" drain and 3/4 returns). A Little Giant rated about 1000gph @0 as main pump and a Fasco rated about 1000 for the closed loop. The drain is a massive 1500gph monster The sump was a wet/dry filter that I converted to a sump with a fuge suspended on top of it. I was worried about the design but now that I see it working I'm satisfied (bubble trap working very well) A little media filter container I built inside the sump Wife restoring the stand The overflow
grassi
..and some more work (and money) The plumbing is a mix of pvc and flexible. A schwid take care of alternating the closed looè return Water! I had to redo 2 bulkheads, obviously the most difficult to reach (sump and lower drain) Salt! Now is a marine aquarium :-) We had a good deal yesterday from a member of the forum for a 175W MH that we are gonna use for a while until we find the right ones (probably 2x250w MH + T5 actinics). We also found some nice live rock in the local area. It was a busy weekend The tank room, just repainted. Not finished yet. Glad I had some Chemi Pure elite running into the 2 other tanks for the paint fumes. Now cycling and looking for the rest of the equipment (skimmer, ato and calcium reactor) and some more Live Rock. Rick
Looks like you figured out the plugs on the light. I forgot to show them to you yesterday. Are you going to do a bare bottom or will you be adding sand?
grassi
Yes, that was easy :-) I lowered them some more after the pic. Give me a few hours to figure out the sizes for the tube and I'll send you an email. I would like to go bare bottom, I like them better, maybe because I'm from Europe lol Wife likes it with sand. We are fighting but you know already who is gonna win. We have sand in the Biocube 14 and bare bottom in my 10g and I can say that the last one is more easy to keep (and also nicer with all the coralline on the bottom glass). Thanks again
Rick
No problem. Woody at Seahorse sells used sand for 50 cents a pound but it needs to be rinsed first if you decide to go that way. (40 or 50 pounds of my sand is the same stuff) Where in Europe are you from?
grassi
Thanks for the advice! I think I will go for a medium grain sand. Not more than 1 and 1/2 or 2". We are still looking for more live rock too. I'm from Milan, Italy. Not a nice town: just 7 millions of people in the metro area and lots of traffic and pollution. Just like LA but without sun :-)
grassi
Some updates Recently a member of the Pforum (Rick) built for me a nice hanging system for the 65g. It is made of 2 stainless steel tubes, bent and with 2 sailing fittings that are perfect to attach the fixture. I also got a tube bender and with a 1/2inch alluminum tube I made a support for the lights of my 10 gallon.
grassi
Updates 2 In the other room of the basement I setted up my "wather station". I was bored of difficult water changes so with some $30 I built this unit. As you can see from the pics the left bucket is feed by RO/Di. Then a diy bulkhead feed by gravity the second bucket, where I make the salt wather. An heater and an old powerhead are into this second unit. I plan to add a float valve and a solenoid to have always the fresh water bucket filled up. It is working very well. When you need to make salt you just open the lower valve and the water goes into the second unit. Add salt and switch on pump and heater and you are set. Also the 2 buckets feature 2 ball valves for easily serve fresh or salt wather. In the future I plan to add a couple of pumps to feed the auto topoff and wather change of my new tank (yes! the 4th one). This is a 100g rubbermaid tub that I will use for propagation. At now is filled with about 100lb of a mix of LR and dead rock. There is also a venturi skimmer and a MJ 1200 with the 2100gph kit.
Montgomd
Hey, great job with the tank, looks awesome!!! Also, I spent a few months in Milan in 2003 and it was the hottest and most HUMID weather I have ever endured.... I would agree, like LA but more humid.
grassi
Thanks! Yes, more humid than LA for sure. And the winter is even worst with all the fog we have. The NW is way better :-) You were there for work?

grassi
Personally I like the minimalist look and it will look even better with a bigger pendant, when I will upgrade. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of the standard canopy and I love the open top tanks.
grassi
Finally the Skimmer! I had to wait about 8 weeks but finally the skimmer is here. First the new model was out and I had to wait it was shipped in the US. Then they were stuck somewhere in NJ. So this is the new Bubble Magus NAC6. The quality of constructions looks great for that cheap. The instructions are impossible to read. But once up and running this guy surprised me. It is very silent and producing a huge amount of bubbles. I'm breacking in inside the 100g rubbermaid sump, which is supposed to be plenty of crap. Tomorrow I'm gonna mount it in the tank's sump (but I have to empty the sump, slide it outside the stand... a pita). Here some pics

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of the standard canopy and I love the open top tanks. After having mine done for a few days there is a good chance we will leave it as it is. My wife said it gives it more of a retro look and like it. I like it because it is easy to access the tank. My only concern is if I have any jumpers (If I ever decide to put my eel in the big tank) then I'll need to build an eggcrate cover to keep them from jumping out. grassi
Our last diamond goby jumped out through our egg crate :( I've read that screen door screen material can be bought and cut to shape and is a great option -Jamie

I think I could build a lip around the edge similar to what the acrylic tanks have and that might work. Fortunately nothing in there now jumps. (I've heard the sleeper goby could potentially jump but mine never gets to the top of the tank except occasionally if I feed them flakes) The only jumper I have is the eel and it is big enough I think egg crate will keep it in. For now it's okay in the other tank though so I don't have to worry about it.

grassi
No, we have 4 tanks. The GOC is running into the 14gallon biocube with a remora skimmer. The new skimmer is running into the 100g sump at now, and I'm moving it into the 65g tomorrow.

CA2OR
yeah....that is enough to make me jealous. I have a 20g who's only use is spinning up water for tank changes...which are far and few between.
