h2odvl
Just picked up (thanks to jon and brian) a 80 Gallon tank and stand. This will be a reef and fish tank. It may take some time to get it up and running but I just had to tell someone!

h2odvl
So i'm starting to do some plaining on this thing:) I want to have two 1" drains, one in each corner with overflow boxes one 1" return in the middle (with some crazy spray bar) I was thinking a 20 long sump and a 10 gallon refug I have a mag 9.5b for a return pump and a BM NAC-3 for a skimmer(also going to use skimmer from my other tank) Will be using the rodi and dual chamber reactor and two part dosing from other tank. nnewhouse
You should just plumb the two tanks together.(drooler)
h2odvl
I don't have the space to do it. :(

Algae
Jacob, Are you gonna be able to keep up with the Mag 9.5 with 2 X 1" overflows?
7Max-GTE
I think I read somewhere that 1.5" overflows will drain around 600gph on their own. Might want to upsize just to be safe?
h2odvl
well at 4+ feet of head the pump can only flow 700-800gph and a 1" pvc schedule 40 can flow 960gph with low friction loss. My best guess would be 600-800gph for each 1" overflow with a far amount of friction loss. I should be fine i would think
batchelor
i run a mag 9.5 with 2 1" overflows and a 3/4" return. i have a ball valve on the return that i use to adjust the flow. its been working great for the past 3 years.

h2odvl
I was planing on running a overflow box in the middle and two returns, one at ether end. Well I decided to look at my tank for the first time in a while and noticed a large piece of glass in the center of my tank. So that's out of the picture. Now I'm looking to run one return in the center and two overflow boxes one at ether end. Each box is going to have two 1" drains one will be a full siphon the other will be a emergency backup. I was thinking of running flex tubing for drain and return. What do you think about that? I would have the bulkhead then a T fitting a valve then a barb fitting that I would clap the flex tubing to, that for two drains and the return. The other two (the backups) would not have a valve. Algae
Jacob, Am I missing something? Why not do a coast-to-coast minus a few inches on each side for the drilled returns. Hook up a Beananimal and hard plumb the overflow?
Algae
Sorry Jacob, Had a brain problem. I assume you want to throw as much light as possible? It does, however look that there is room below the brace and upper trim to put in an internal overflow?
newfisher
What about a modified coast to coast minus the middle section for the glass brace? Franklin, would that work skipping the centersection as long as the tank was totally level?
Algae
We should visit Jacob, take a look, and set up a committee.
