I just posted about lighting parameters for a Peninsula mini 25; my tank has been running for a little over a month now and my lighting is all out of whack.

How has your lighting been going?

I’ve been enjoying the AI Prime! What light are you using?

  2. Well, in any event..I decided that no matter what they are, I’m sure they aren’t helping the coral. I pulled it out and removed three of them by puncturing their “shell” with a knife and scraping them off. Whatever they were, there was a substantial chunk of guts in each of them.810BA0DF-B724-45ED-84FF-2D98C397D79F.thumb.jpeg.427fad5e84b79f404edd408cfb07b4ce.jpeg

  3. In a continued struggle to determine why I have an unhappy torch, I noticed some strange things on the side of the base. When open, I can see gill shaped things inside. Shading it from the light causes it to instantly close like a feather duster would (see video below), then slowly open again.

Anybody know what these might be?

  4. Hoping for some input about how my new torch is looking. Initially, it was in pretty constant one directional flow and didn’t really want to open too much. I’ve since moved it to a spot with nice, random, indirect flow…yet it still seems more closed than the rest of my euphyllia.

I’ve been running my light on acclimation, starting super low (like 25%) and slowly increasing it since Saturday when I added them (currently at 60%).

Here are a few shots from different angles, with a full tank shot showing it’s placement (top/back).

  5. I picked up my mystery box and a grab bag from @CuttleFishandCoral yesterday and let me just say…the generosity of Jeff is unreal.

I asked for a box of euphyllia and zoas and BOY did he deliver. Considering one of the pieces is worth what I paid for the box..I’m blown away to say the least. I don’t have a lens for my phone yet, so you have to deal with blue..

I would love help identifying what the first one is!

  6. Update for all of you who I’m sure are absolutely GLUED to this thread (😂):

First of all, the abused zoa has improved significantly. While I did lose 2/3 polyps, I have hope in this little fella:

Secondly, I picked up this suuuper sexy splatter hammer from TPA. I’m not happy with the orientation that I glued it in, but it’s chillin for now:

  7. I added in some life over the weekend!

-Clownfish pair (one misbar, one normal)

    -5 blue leg hermits

-5 nassarius snails (love watching these things pop up a minute or two after feeding!)

-3 different types of zoas (3/3/2 polyps, nothing crazy)

The clowns are doing exceptionally well. They were FEASTING on dry pellets within minutes.

Today on my lunch break, I ran by my house and topped off the tank a decent amount (was way too much; temp bottle ATO coming tomorrow, then I’ll decide on a nice one). Almost instantly, I noticed the female (my misbar) absolutely spazzing out. Seizing every few seconds. I also noticed some aggression that I hadn’t seen yet. I thought I was torturing my fish with the RO water coming in from the back and felt terrible. After a quick search, I realized they were just vibing out with each other and bonding???

As soon as I figure out how to upload a video, I’ll share a clip of it!

In more sad news, I may or may not have actually abused one of the 3p zoa frags during dipping/cleaning and let’s just say…only one polyp seems to stand a chance at this point. Obviously, they are my favorite of the three types I purchased…

More info to come on operation save-a-zoa…

I threw out the sock I don't trust that there's no bypass if it gets plugged and I know I wouldnt change or clean it as much as it needs to be lol

I didn't even think about taking the sock out, I like that idea.

I'll be out of town this weekend, but I'll definitely be rearranging the compartments when I'm back. I pulled out the foam pieces the other day and noticed one of them (I think it was only one) was touching the heater and had a little indented area on it like it had been melted slightly. I pulled the heater and there were some weird white marks on the glass, which is obviously where the foam was touching it. I wiped it off really well with a paper towel, but was unable to remove all of it.

I moved the heater onto the back wall of the tank for now until I can situate things better.

I love your scape.  I just moved my 5 gallon inhabitants into a 20 gallon waterbox.  Loving it so far!

I've tried 2 pumps a Jebao SLW-10 and an AI Nero 3 which I had to send back to BRS to evaluate for noise and intermittent failed startups.  The Jebao is currently running the show solo.

I'm also really happy with the little skimmer I chose it fits great and runs in the media chamber.  Its a Comline DOC Protein Skimmer 9001

Thank you for the compliment and the information!

Are you running just the skimmer? I already don’t like how I have the media compartment set up. With my heater also in that slot, the two foam pieces are awkward to say the least. If I could eliminate that foam stuff and run a skimmer + the bio balls and/or charcoal, that might work nicely…

P.S. I love your scape as well. I almost added a pointed island like you have on the left. I’ll most likely end up adding an island (or islands) of some sort because I think there’s only about 10lb of rock in there right now…

  10. Hello there, I'm new to the forum for the second time. I was a member years ago when I bought my first tank - a 130g cube. It was filled with joy and sadness, as you can imagine a first tank of that size would be.

Now, after years of “one day I want a tank again”, here we are.

Recently, I became interested in plants and my friend offered me a 10g aquarium to use for a terrarium. Well, you see...one thing led to another...and now I also have a brand new Waterbox Peninsula Mini 25 from TPA. Interesting how that works.

Here is my current set up:

    -Tank: Waterbox Peninsula Mini 25
    -Light: AI Prime 16HD
    -Flow: AI Nero 3
