More background on your tank, and other fish???

I have 3 clowns, 3 anemone, 1 scopis, 1 sailfin, 3 dams, 1 wrasse, 1 two stripe gobie, lawnmower blennie and 2 pajamas. 55 gal, running uv sterilization. 2 canister filter, protein skimmer, in tank refugium. Only Skeletor (the tang) has the spots. And they don’t quite look like coliflower but it is solid looking chunks of white

I identified a new goby @psychofireman added to his tank today.  And afterwards realized How I did it may be worth sharing.   On my phone (iphone), the Google app has a button that lets you search based on an image.  It's called Google-Lens.    This is a huge help and I use it regularly, for more than aquarium stuff.   In this case, I just pointed it at my screen - and up came the answer.

That is awsome, I never knew of that search. Now I can be a little less annoying

Congrats on getting these two cool gobies.  A little googling, and looks like you got Valenciennea helsdingenii.

    • Valenciennea helsdingenii is a species of goby from the Indo-Pacific. It is commonly known as the twostripe goby, black-lined sleeper goby, or railway sleeper goby.

Ty, they really are cool to watch suck up and then drop sand as they swim around

  4. I got these pair of gobies and can’t remember what they are. I googled and see some like them but not close enough to say for sure. Anyone know what they are? I got them from woody’s seahorse and love them

For your size tank you would use the clarisea 3000. It’s triggered by a float switch

Thank you, that makes alot of sense now to me. Definitely will have to get one once I find a cheap sump

  6. Ok a couple more different questions. If I got a sump( currently trying to find an affordable used one) Would I need to run a protein skimmer? I have read many things going both ways. I currently have a HOB p.s. and I  don't have one that would work in a sump. Also, Do you need to do water changes when running a sump or just top offs? And what size sump pump would I need?

Clarisea all day. You can buy generic filter rolls off ebay for a quarter of the cost too.

which clarisea would you recommend? I have a 55 gal. Also, what I dont understand on the automatic, how does it know to advance? is it like on a timer or what?

How about a tuxedo urchin and a brittle or serpent starfish!

Not sure how they would do in my tank. Have only an inch of sand in the front 1/4 of tank. Behind rock is no sand. And not familiar with the starfishes

  9. I have a 55 gal mixed reef/fish/ live rock tank. What fish and invertebrates  would y’all recommend for cleaning and visual stimulation? And how many. I currently have 1 blue chromis, 3 assorted damsels, 3 clowns, 1 Haitian, 1 long tip and 1 carpet anemone. Also in process of rehoming  humu Picasso trigger.

Hey all, just wanted to give some props to Gumby (Jim) for his frag sale over the weekend.  It was a pleasure to get to see his amazing display tank and hear about his upgrade plans as well as take advantage of some killer coral deals.  Super generous and gracious guy if you haven't met him.  I still can't believe some of the zoas I came home with (and didn't even go there for those).

    Thanks again man! @Gumby

I agree, I learned a lot and got many great deals

Would anyone like this fish? I got him not realizing how much he would harass my cleanup crews and gobies. He is fine with my clowns and damsels. He is a lot of fun to watch. But I feel he needs more swimming area. Pm me if interested.

Dosing only Ca will fix this situation. That plus time. I'm not sure why that calculator would recommend also dosing Alk, I would turn off my Alk dosing pump, keep my Ca dosing on, and also do some manual daily doses of Ca til it hits 400-450. Over time, you'll get some precipitation... keep adding just Ca to maintain it over 400 and your Alk should drop to normal levels within a week or so.

    my 2c

What would be a daily dose amount? The bottle I have says add 5ml (10ml for my tank) 1xweek. Would a daily dose be in addition to that?
