  1. I got a seahare about a month ago to help clear up a gha issue I was battling. He cleaned up my main rock structure really well, and then the day I was planning on taking him back I was given some corals and rocks with a bit of gha on it so I figured I'd keep him till the gha was cleaned off the recent additions. He was mowing through the algae since the day I got him. Today there's still a little bit of gha for him to eat, but when I stopped by my house on my lunch break I found him looking like this. IMG_20180228_122744.thumb.jpg.3b1f4fec9164723c1502f2fe8b87c497.jpg

Obviously not good at all. Ive been testing phosphate, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate regularly lately with both ammonia and nitrite being undetectable, and nitrates somewhere between 0 and 5. Things have been more stable than ever recently. I swapped out sumps a few days ago on my semi regular water change day and only changed the normal amount, using what I could of the old water in order to help prevent swings as much as possible. Everything else has reacted to the new changes quite well. I definitely don't think it's a water quality issue. None of my fish ever picked on him either so I'm not quite sure what could have caused this.

Essentially what I'm wondering is should I leave him in there and give him a chance to potentially pull through, or is he too far gone for any hope of recovery?

"Random browned out acro" may deter some people on this board. Better photos showing the actual color may help somebody dole out the cash you seek.

This. It's difficult enough to sell corals as it is, so decent pictures showing closer to real life help alot.

  3. Ive had great luck with catching fish in stocked reefs with 2 nets, and fast hands during feeding. The only strategies I know of for calming down a bully is by removing it and putting it in another tank for a week or so to give the other fish a chance to establish a territory. You could try to put new additions in an acclimation box so they can see eachother and warm up to eachother without being able to fight.

  4. I'd assume so. If it was doing well before for an extended period of time, and no abnormal changes to the tank aside from the light were made, that's all it could be right? Uv is what promotes zooxanthellae growth the most, and just adding it would definitely shock anything that uses that particular spectrum of light. When I added my 2 blue t5s on my tank within a few days I went from 4 anemones to 7, some sps temporarily lost a little color, but my lps just perked up more. Even with a slow acclimation process. Now that everything has adjusted to a constant light schedule coral colors and polyp extension have never been better.

To me this splitting of your nems sounds like  a water quality issue. They will usually keep splitting to insure there survival. Just my thoughts on this.

I've also noticed overfeeding, and light changes like the one present can cause them to split more. As far as I'm aware anemones still contain zooxanthellae and typically grow the most contained when they've only got so much light energy that can actually be used to grow. The additional uv could have very well allowed the anemones to feel comfortable enough to reproduce. Well, aleast that's my thoughts on why it's splitting.

  6. I HATE REMOVING ANEMONES. Bubbletips like to get their foot wedged in a cave or crevice. The best way I've found is to lift the rock above the water and flip it so the tips of the nems tentacles dangle in the surface of the water. Then rub the edge of the foot till it starts to lift, then gently wedge your thumb between the rock and the foot, and just continue gently massaging it and it will drop off. I've never lost a nem that way, and they usually seem the least stressed as well. Good luck!

  7. I'm looking for some sort of aiptasia eaters that will also eat frozen, or other easily prepared foods. Such as a small copperband butterfly (preferably known not to have a taste for corals), matted filefish, SA peppermint shrimp. I've only got 2 or 3 aiptasia maybe, just want something to keep it at that 2 to 3 maximum or less ideally. Multiple injections of Aiptasia X only seems to be keeping the 2 I've noticed from spreading. Definitely not enough to justify the need for a berghia. Just tired of injecting them once a day. Have cash, or corals! Thanks!

  8. Finally got a new used sump to temporarily replace my DIY 20l sump that fell apart. IMG_20180225_224254.thumb.jpg.05506a9144ae5ac8ebb7bd6a18cdd14f.jpgThanks again Ron! Water instantly looked better once I got it running. Hopefully I'll get all of my small issues fully under control by the time the new stuff starts getting here, and installed. In other news, I've decided to go with a 60"x30"x12" frag tank in order to just link the 2 systems together neatly. I decided to go with a larger frag tank simply because it will cost roughly the same due to the size of acrylic sheets he got for it. New sump design is essentially just a really oversized Triton style sump.

I will take a chunck will you be around tomorrow?  I have to go to Ron's to pick up a rodi.

I'll be going skiing in the morning probably, but I'll be home early-mid afternoon.

I would love a chuck too. I’ll have to figure out when I can get down there this week. Unless you are coming through PDX

If I head that direction I'll definitely shoot you a message! Otherwise just shoot me a message and we can figure something out!

  10. I've got 10 various sized chunks of some sort of blue polyped monti cap I was given the other day, had to break it down to get a piece where I wanted future growth. Pieces are coloring up alot, but they were exposed to air for an unknown amount of time recently so they're still pretty bleached. A bit of a teal color is quickly returning to the tissue, and shows awesomely bright blue polyps. Not sure exactly what colors they're gonna end up being, or what the pieces chances of survival are, but they're free. 1"x1" frags up to 2"x5" chunks. I'm located near keizer/salem area in Brooks.

  11. No thank you! Everything is already opening up in the qt. Like I said, definitely let me know when you get the new tank up and going and I'll send a bunch of corals your way! Should have great luck keeping most of this alive! I will be posting whatever I decide not to keep on here for free again. Keep your eyes peeled everyone.

  12. Its hard to say I enjoyed watching a documentary showing so much death. But it was definitely a well put together, and informative documentary. A few weeks after I watched it I talked with a guy who dives the gbr in Australia quite regularly, and he said that in certain spots all you can see is nothing but coral skeletons, and some fish swimming through, then a few hundred meters later there's sections of the reef just entirely booming and overgrowing itself. I feel as though the movie puts so much emphasis on what's dying in the reefs, it can feel tough to remember that so much is still alive.

Wow that’s really cool! Skiing is one thing that looks like fun but I tried it once and just wasn’t for me.  There are a lot of car guys on here.

Skiing definitely isn't for everyone, but that's what they invented snowboarding for right? 😉

I used to be a devout believer in "he who dies with the most toys, wins" but hospital visits cured me.

Now fly fishing, alpine skiing, scuba, auto restoration, white water rafting and of course watching my aquarium's alkalinity bounce up and down.

Ive definitely slowed down a ton over the last year. I've obsessed over my aquarium that entire time, so I fully blame it. But it's not all bad. I just swore I'd get back into the things I enjoyed as a kid again this year, and escape from the daily routine. I'm too young to slow down as much as I have, I mean I've only got maybe 5-10 more years of being able to still bounce back from the hard falls.😂

Single turbo 13b re with a street port probably. Debating bridgeport but will see how building goes. Still need to build the subframe so it's a ways out.

I found na miata 13b subframes once upon a time. Do you have the keg yet? If I were building a track dedicated rotary car I would personally go na peripheral port rew. I've got a buddy back in Utah with an pp rew swapped rx8 that makes 440rwhp na. Revs to 11k too. That car is nuts.
