This is one of my favorite caps - very generous of you Taylor!

It's an awesome piece for sure! It very quickly replaced my Idaho grape cap. There's been so many awesome people on this forum that have helped me out with numerous different things, from equipment to livestock. I'm just trying to pay that courtesy forward wherever and whenever I can!

  2. Thanks everyone. Ive been super anxious, as nothing has gone through that sudden of a change. So far some of my more sensitive acros appear to have a bit more pastel coloration. The rest of my sps, lps and softies seem to be just fine. Watching for alk burns, and further color changes. Changed 12g of water.

  3. I'm at an hour since the overdose, and It seems as though alk has stabilized at 8.4, cal is pretty high at 480, and Mag has dropped a little to 1260. Will the kalk continue to leach elements into the water causing more fluctuation? Will the water change just shock the corals more than just riding it out? Currently mixing 55g of water. Have 12g on hand I'm getting ready to change right now.

  4. How large of a water change should I do? 30%? Total water volume on my system is right around 120g. Alk is reading 8.3-8.4, seems to be leveling out right there. My whole tank to clouded up a bit for about 15 minutes, Corals haven't retracted polyps or changed appearance, but I definitely don't want to risk long term damage.

  5. Mixed up a tablespoon of kalkwasser into a shotglass of ro water for some aiptasia control, I use an old 5ml syringe for aiptasia control. I filled it with 5ml of kalk paste, and the tip of the syringe ended up bursting after knocking down 3 aips, jetting about 4mls of kalk paste right into my display. Ive never used kalk for dosing, and don't know much about it other than what I've read for using it for aiptasia control. My alk has jumped from 7.9 to 8.3 since the incident. Feel like its still climbing. Is there anything I can do to prevent loss right now? Should I just keep testing and observing?

I’ve never had a sea hare live longer than a month or so myself. They starve pretty quickly. If you want an algae eater of the same variety I recommend an abalone. I’ve had mine for several years now and it does the same thing the sea hare was good for

I'll have to give them a look. The idea with the seahare was to have it eat as much as possible, then do a flucanozole treatment after it was gone to kind of help with keeping nutrients a bit more stable during the algae die off. Was hoping to have less algae to deal with when starting treatment though! This guy mowed through everything from gha and bryopsis, to excess macro that somehow attached to rock work, just didn't quite finish cleaning the tank by the time he passed unfortunately.

    I believe I have one!
Yes will check in the morning.
It’s either 4 or 6 bulb, barely used because I bought a Prime instead.

That would be awesome! Let me know! A 6 bulb fixture would be a little awkward to position as I'm wanting to just supplement my led with more t5s, but I could definitely still be interested in a 6 bulb in trade for corals! Would pay cash for 4 bulb, or 8-10bulb.

Lex, thanks for the info and encouragement. Yes, I use RODI water, and an algae scrubber is on my wish list.  My SPS are not happy and I suspect the "high" nitrate could be a factor.

If your sps arent looking great with a nitrate of only 10 there's a number of factors that could be causing the issue. Are they browning out? Rtn/stn? Bleaching? Ive had my nitrates hit 20-25 before in an sps dominant tank, and if I wouldn't have tested nitrates specifically I wouldn't have even noticed. Now I try to keep my nitrates around 5 in order to help cope with the lack of intensity I get from my current light setup. Any lower nitrates and I start to get pastel colors, any higher and corals start to brownout.
