  1. Hi, I had a crash a month or so back. The tank is stabilizing but experiencing a bubble algae and cyano outbreak.

When looking at the tank today I noticed a pest coral on some rock. I can't remember the name of these and my Googlefu is letting me down.

It's the little ones on the left of the rock. Zoas are there for scale.

  2. This is what they look like today after 10-15 gallon water changes every other day. They are just melting. That toadstool used to go all the way across my 40 breeder. I even sucked up a bunch of the sinularia during the last 2 water changes.

Salvageable or should I just take the rocks and coral out?

Did a nem die or get caught in a powerhead? Did you check ammonia?

I highly doubt it. They have not left the center rock formation in many years and the nero is up high on the glass. The way the skimmer is going and the algea covering the glass so quickly, it does point to a death though.

I unfortunately don't have an ammonia test. I will pick one up.

I would assume ammonia is running wild, probably time for some Prime and do a wet skim water change. With skimmer overflowing, drain skimmate into bucket and replace with fresh salt water (do about 5 gals this way, direct change more). Definitely need more than a 5 gal change, with things this off id try and do more like 15 gal change.

Thanks! I am mixing 10g now but will add another 5 and start filtering more for tomorrow. That's a good point about replacing with saltwater. The ato had been clicking on more with how much skimmate its been pulling. The bucket is a good idea too.

  4. I woke up Friday to my living room smelling like the beach and my skimmer overflowing. Everything in my 40b was closed up and all my leathers shedding bad. Anemones were all splitting.

I did a 5g water change and added carbon. Saturday things were worse and the leathers looked like they were melting and my skimmer is overflowing.

Things have been getting worse all week. The nems are pale and pretty little. Everything else is still closed up even the zoas and palys. Sps are dead.

    Temp is 78

    Salinity is 1.024

Alk is high at 13.5 after the water changes.

I am making another 10g of water now.

Is there anything I can do?

Pics are 2 weeks ago and today.

  5. I have let one go for way too long and now i have a ton of long branches running towards any light. Let me know if you want some or else they are going to Jeff or the trash this weekend. All cuttings will be several inches long.

Duct tape and tweezers. Vinegar soak for tough to remove spines. Everclear works too

It largely depends on the type of bristleworm.

Thanks! I tried the tape and it was getting some but felt like it was pushing more in. I was able to get most out with glue and vinegar has helped make the remaining spines soften.

I have had a reef tank since cnc opened on Mississippi and this was the first time I really got hit.

Is it branching or non branching? I've got braching, but prefer the non branching.

I have some non branching struggling under almost no light in the corner of my tank if you want it.

Lights are just ramping up so I can get better pics later if there is interest.

  8. There are a few of us with printers if you have specific questions. The enders are the budget entry printer. They work great but can take some tinkering. Bamboo labs supposedly makes amazing printers but there is some proprietary stuff with them. However, they have all the upgrades you will do to an ender, and they come assembled out of the box and ready to print.

Wait really? I got a notification on June 9th of 2023. I am running on a apex classic though. I am pretty sure I could recrate it too.

  10. I have a couple German Blue Digis available in SE Portland.

One is a about 2.5 inches tall and has one split in to 2 branches but about to branch out.

The second one is larger, about 3.5 inches, but has a little hair algae on it today. It's growing up to the glass so it needs a new home where it can have the space.
