  1. Hi there,

I just learned about this site today!  A friend gave me a used Oceanic Biocube 29 about 2-1/2 years ago.  I have done well considering I am just now leaning about proper care of the tank!  Better late than never!  I did remove the cover and installed led lights, another pump for better water movement and working on getting a ATO set up.  I hope to get a 60-90 gallon someday too. :)

Yes I think I'm the one who sent you on over here you will enjoy these people.

There is tank build thread to you can post about you tank and if you have any questions please ask away :)  Lots of information floating around here  :)

  2. MORE INFO!

ordered a new bottle from amazon- also bad?!?! ([language filter]?)

    thought this deserved a call-

    called Hanna-

a real person answered the phone promptly- transferred me to another real person (a tech)

He was very helpful and understandable!

    the ACTUAL PROBLEM is:

once opened, if you store the reagents laying flat, the prolonged contact with the liner in the lid is causing the reagent to test 1-2 DKH low- if you store them standing up, you won't see the problem-

they are still happy to replace, they have 337 requests for replacement right now, so it will be a while...

also: I ordered a brand new RedSea test kit- it test virtually the same as my Hanna Checker...

also2: don't buy Hanna Reagent from Amazon- they haven't sent them new stock in over a year...

I feel better about the whole situation- I almost lost faith in Hanna....

Ya I talked to them to it will be awhile like I said 2 to 3 weeks and those that don't have a receipt might get jacked which again I hope not.

But get some back up.  I lay mine flat because they fit in container laying flat and that is correct I was dosing to 9.5 and it turns out on my other test kit I was dosing 7.5 so mine was off 2.0 so 1 to 2 I think is a big problem so glad I was dosing or I could of had dead everything

EDIT  Btw how are they solving the problem with the lid thing I think there is more to it than that I think the solution isn't right. I opened my other one which was never in a lay down flat spot  and its still reading 1.5 under.

So if that's what he is saying is the problem then I don't know about that.

  3. has anyone tried to call them? It says it will ship out soon but when i talked to them they said 2 to 3 weeks i do have back ups thank gosh everyone should. But the little email says it will ship out shortly and when i talked to them they say now until 2 to 3 weeks.

Most have to prove you have a receipt to they say so those that didnt submit with a receipt i hope they honor it i mean gosh you show a pic of the darn thing and it has the lot number so lets see what happens

  4. I have to agree with everything that's already been said... I can break down my whole tank what I feed, when I feed it etc etc etc... Honestly it really means little to nothing because like most things in this hobby what works for me more than likely will not garner the same results for someone else.

Everyone's tanks are different and we all have our individual husbandry styles, the things we all have in common is we stay within a range of acceptable water chemistry and we all try to keep things as stable as possible.

Honestly I've seen tanks that look good with some of the most whacked out water chemistry and super dirty water ever... but one thing we all strive for is stability. I don't think that can't be stressed more.

Chasing numbers will usually result in failure, everybody's tank will have a sweet spot and finding that sweet spot (the actual numbers) for one's individual tank is what you should strive for.

As for my tank... I don't know all the numbers as far as water chemistry because I tweak my tank based on what I see it doing. (something you acquire when you've been doing this for like 20 some odd years lol). The only thing I test is my alk, cal and mag.

I run an 8 bulb ATI powermodule for lighting, I'm fairly lazy when it comes to do any water changes and I run no GFO, 1 cup of carbon for 2-3 day every month or so the take any yellow out of the water passively in a bag.

My tank is roughly 165 gallons of total water volume.

I feed my fish Hakri Marine Plankton blend.

My corals I feed the following twice per week.

    10ml Oyster Feast

10ml Red Sea Reef Energy a&b

    10ml Aquavitro Fuel

I also add 12ml of Acro Power once per week, only at night. (I can explain this later if you're curious)

I run filter socks I change once per week and I skim fairly heavy with a modified Reef Octopus XP-2000 with a DC pump and I have a Aquamaxx S-2 calcium reactor.

    ATI_Contest_zpswa8n1qvi.jpg

The  Aquavitro Fuel has copper in it that's not a problem huh for anything else? That would worry me but I know some people run some copper

    EDIT :)

I just wanted to add I use Zeo for mine in the past always did good.

But like someone mentioned not everything is going to work for every body and the reactions of every ones tanks will not be the same.

  5. Wow it's very pretty

Yea these rock flower guys are amazing I have a bunch of them and in the morning when the blue lights are on my whole tank glows with neon colors.

Then at night when only the blue lights are on same thing.. When all the lights are off they flair up and you can see them trying to snatch food.. Love there personalitys and colors no doubt.

  6. mine needed to be replaced and it was off with my back up 9.5 alk was really 7.5 so some batches maybe worse than others. But you should always have back up's api or something

    EDIT:)

Thanks for posting this :) my other 2 seem to match my api hanna checkers so must be just the alk

  7. Title explains it all - I'm trying to figure out what the best option for a light on a sump refugium. I could hang one from the stand but I'd rather just get something that clips on the side and extends out over the middle of the sump. There are so many options online I'm trying to sort out what people generally use....just growing chaeto.

    Thanks.

Funny you posted this I was looking for some type of clip on light to go down by the sump as well :) I need some light down there :)

So would the gold be overkill .  Looking at all this i dont have a clue as to what it all means.   If  i  ever did get one like i said i would get the DOS and would use that with the Apex but as far as not being over kill what would do it.

Or would it be best to have it all with the gold.

  9. there are 4 kinds of the apex tell me something when i look at it i always want the best but i dont want to over kill either would i even need the gold?

If i got it i would get the DOS and the DOS extension but could i go with the normal apex? Im looking at the 4 options and it seems like a ton of stuff maybe over kill

  11. If you got to do a back up to the apex then why even have it?  Error i think what he meant like someone mentioned is it went black and shut off. The other dosing thing had ahicup and kept dosing the tank.  I guess its about trusting one thing to run your tank for you and that scares me some :) Floods over dosing the thing shutting off going black not my cup of tea

EDIT now you say having a back up to that lol I can spend 1000 bucks on something better :)
