  2. I decided I would start a thread going from the birth of a downgraded tank that is turning out awesome.

Decided, to save space in our apartment, we would sell off the 40gal breeder with sump and stand and get a more desktop 20gal AIO. Went with the Nuvo 20gal and as of right now only filtration is carbon and the filter socks. The light is a captive reef series LED light. Going from a DIY led build this is sweet. Made a light rail from some shelving parts at Home Depot and it looks pro enough.

Took all of my zoa plugs clown pair sand sifter and cromis and they look perfect. Also took what I wanted from my old LR. Super excited about this build! b20cb92cbd7a31907c930aac905e2695.jpg

I plan on taking some better photos tonight.

  3. I plan to post things for sale as they become available as I'm transferring some of my rock and all my corals and fish to another tank (going smaller tank)

so far I have a few pieces of rock covered in chaeto that I'll do 15$ for all of it. I trimmed it back last week it made a sponge in my refugium.

If people want to follow along here is a list of things that'll be ready soon!

    Drilled 40gal Breeder w/baffles

    Basic homemade stand

    DIY 20galL sump

2 Two little fishies 550 reactors

    EcoPlus 172

    EcoPlus 528

    Filter socks

    Rock of Xenia

DIY LED unit built from Rapid LEDS custom controller for sunrise sunset (stand for that is drilled onto tank stand.)

All is in great condition. I will include the baffles and bulkheads. I'm throwing away all the tubing.

I'll include more pictures as I clean it but everything will be as spotless as possible.

I'm thinking 600 OBO for everything. But will piece it out if I don't find a good offer. 13cb3ae1a821d6222cd1c9f3d4bfcf27.jpg77b27c3def8ec3e727e26d1bd936b018.jpg81b087c9951b2359a2b617b346c57624.jpg993dc68374233463b78eae823f952f2d.jpg45c7c5ec13cec20eb6965a6ccb8617c8.jpg

  4. Have a rock piece that has two different kinds of nice contrasting zoas. Forgive me for the low quality photo but the are colored up rather nicely and are growing nicely. Each mini colony has about 10 polyps. Looking to trade for other zoas or yumas. Or 30$6650a512bb6280416beffe3d2944bada.jpgf01a918757dd11c9b3673166eca4b2bc.jpg

  5. Ended up doing a total water change of 13ish gallons with sucking all that sand and detris out of the sump. Corals are already looking happier and I have a nice garden of zoas growing!

  6. Decided to revamp the refugium and trimmed the chaeto back and sucked out most of the sand. Tank needed some TLC so I did a ten gal water change and got some new zoas and a trio of Cromis thanks to Premium Aquariums in Wilsonville. After going on vacation the tank got too dirty for its own good and my frogspawn didn't seem to make it I have them on the sand bed to hopefully recoup reccomendations?? d6df74bc58548ee1583a2f09d4460946.jpgfa8d31b8ed0eaeda25c2a05739de5b96.jpg

  7. THanks, I'm facing a little of an apestia problem but this article helped a lot

I had success with peppermint shrimp before so might go buy a few to nip it in the butt.  Im having pretty awesome growth from my Zoas but very little luck with SPS.  I need to get a new testing kit but what are the most important things to keep track of specifically for SPS?  calcium? phosphates?

  8. I need to get some pictures up, hopefully ill do that today!  Tank is looking good.  I need to get another testing kit as i have just run out of mine.  I realized this after i noticed some of my LPS not expanding as much.  Ive upped my frequency of water changes to every week and changed out my carbon and GFO, so hopefully that helps.

Looking into Low light reefs.  Anyone ever done this?  I imagine it will slow growth down and fade color possibly but I'm not comfortable going non-photosynthetic corals yet so I'm just curious.

  9. Ya I definitely agree, it's interesting how they almost look identical but the price points are totally different. Luckily I pick this guy up at the LFS for $10. And it already had 15ish polyps on it and has probably grown 10 since then (3 months). That probably means watermelons.

  10. It's not a LFS but they have more variety of zoas then in a fish store. They are in Hillsboro area. Like Miles kindly pointed out their names are

Mr.Bret and Softy on the forum.

Hah gotcha I was very confused obviously

  12. Nice new tank! As far as zoas "in demand" usually comes with a price tag. Everyone always wants candy apple reds, utter chaos, Rastas, etc to name a few. I'd try and get with some fellow members to get your collection started :)

Also a tip, I never noticed a difference with just 1 peppermint shrimp but when I hit about 5 all the aptaisa would disappear quickly.

    Thanks for the peppermint tip!

Ya I just got some gorilla nips and gobstoppers zoas and once I see some more good growth I'll start searching for some more exotic ones.
