I will tell you from experience' date=' it is worth every penny to buy a gate valve. You will go nuts trying to adjust it with a ball valve.[/quote']
100% plus one, you won't regret it. You can cut the ball valve off and replace down the road if in a rush but it is so darn much better to have the gate valve.
-
Looking good though. You are having too much fun it looks like
I know you know this... but just in case. Gluing in the standpipes is optional. If your sump can take the overflow box draining without overflowing. Just a thought... None of mine are cemented in.
The old 'power out test' is a good one. Pull the stand pipes, cut the return pump, see if your sump is too close to overflowing.

Looks good to me.
One thing to keep in mind, the greater the height difference between your siphon and your backup, the more room you have for adjustment on the full siphon. Looks like plenty of room to me.
That emergency should stay dry I suppose to be a by the book Herbie.
Gate valve below right for fine tuning?
Looks slick!

DANG!! Glad you guys are ok. Shoot.....

Not perfect, but surely handy! I enjoyed poking around in their tables and for the ones I checked they seemed to match books / other reefer buddies...

I am in if someone starts one, will sign up.

+1 to Bill.
I run a few heaters in the skimmer chamber of the sump. The level there is fixed, they will never run dry there unless the sump leaks. At first I had them in the pump chamber, not such a good place! Good luck...

Great idea! I could use something like this to keep my toddler's bouncy balls out of my sump.It may even help keep my corris wrasse in the sump. A screen would be also useful to block out lighting from neighboring tanks when taking photos.
Whatever it takes to keep the little ones away from the sump and focused on the tank
Glad that it might be helpful. Take pics if you build some. I am going to try them on the bigger frag tank, should do the job there too and I store a bunch of distracting items under it.

Cool to see more DIY with the jebao skimmer pumps, excellent! The DC12000 BlueZ setup for me, a monster. Too bad the thread is gone!

Very nice quick idea Jeremy! That's nice that your son is interested in the hobby too. I could never get the kids to get excited about the hobby at all. :( I had magnets and panels on my old tank. Made maintenance really easy!Nice work! Looks great.
Thank you he did a nice job and the best part is, that is his tank. I will probably use these panels on the big frag tank in the office too, now that I have cheap labor to recruit

Thanks fellas, made me feel good, made my son feel better as he built it and saw the results.

Ran across something cool, tried it, sharing....
We made the mistake around here of putting water in the tank before the stands were finished.
As cool as all the plumbing and automation is to me, it is not so cool to non reefers and distracts from the display.
My son and I built this in about an our today for his frag tank.
Stand Before:
Stand After:
Basically this is a window screen using the screen kits at Lowes or Home Depot. In addition, magnets are glued onto the stand and onto the window screen itself.
This makes the stand more attractive, breathable, and easy to access for maintenance.
Ah, important note. You want to use the sun blocking screen, not the normal screen. The sunblocking is much darker.
There is probably no reason you couldn't use any material as well.

Very enjoyable thanks for the posts. I have seen allot of browned out and bleached acros, your collection is inspiration that it can be as good as the photos show seeing them in person.

Lots of good looking frags people! Wish I was going to make the meeting.

Plumbing looks GREAT! Nice job!
So where did you find the '3 easy turn repairable ball valves' online for a good price?
-
Dam I need sun glass for that tank!!!! I was thinking sun coral but have hesitated cuz of the feeding' date=' and not finding healthy ones.[/quote']
That is stunning! Are those all sun coral open in the day time, wow!
-
Oh man, I had no idea the jebao was noisy, it is on the other side of my tank and I never hear it. Bummer, but killer price / functionality / value. Allot of guys use b ionic, what pushed you over the edge?
-
Love all the details on the stand, like the shelves for the DJ and doser. Very nice! Stupidly I filled my tank with water before doing finish work, my poor stand sits half finished today! This is inspiring to get back to it.
-
Bump for the sale!
Just have to say...
Elegance and other corals are doing awesome thanks for the great deal!!

Hey thanks buddy. I tell ya though, her pest tank is really like a pest hospice. Things check in but never check out. Save that poor teddy bear crab for someone else
-
But kudos to my 8 year old daughter for her efforts on the neglected 40B!!
This put a smile on my face. She has been busy capturing and removing them to her personal 'pest tank'.
-
is this for your office tank? For some reason I was thinking your home display tank had a calcium reactor.
