  1. I'm not having much luck on coraline with the acrylic blade either, but when I'm using the metal blade on my glass tanks it does quite well.
  2. I've been using the "strong" one. I think it works great. They could stand to work on the ergonomics, but it's definitely safer than a regular magnet in terms of sand grain scratches. You can properly edge the tank without getting your arm wet, and I find I can put corals closer to the glass because I'm using this for a blade instead of kent scrapers.
  3. I'll take it!
  4. My execution was certainly not perfect, btw. This should probably be taken into account.
  5. I've had problems with this sort of thing once. I attached acrylic baffles to my acrylic sump with silicon because I wanted the ability to change their placement without sawing through the acrylic, & I wasn't concerned with them being perfectly water-tight anyway. Silicone doesn't adhere to acrylic like it does to glass. It can form a good gasket for acrylic sometimes, but I wouldn't depend on it's stickiness to have much force after 6 months or so, or for any bond to form. My panels failed. At some point I'll get around to draining the sump & properly welding the panels on. Maybe yours will work better because 1/2 of the bond is to glass, but I would imagine it's not your most long lasting option.
  6. I've got a nice chunk of this upscales rose stylophora at Moloko. It's beginner level sps but a little more interesting than birds nest. It's very pink in my tanks, with kind of a rainbow sheen. For you, $25. I'll be here from 1:00- 6:00 today.
  7. I've got these frags available to trade at the meeting tomorrow. Large undata frag Tricolor Orange branching setosa Purple rim green capricornus I've also got a few good sized chunks of this Upscales Rose Stylophora I've also got a couple of mini colonies of Orange cap, and some bright green & blue stag, if anybody's interested. See you tomorrow!
  8. This fish has been a resident at Moloko for about 9 months, if memory serves. He is free of disease, occasionally nibbles on montipora (nothing major), & hates the other fox face. Yesterday, I was able to carefully lift him from the display tank with MY BARE HAND. He will never trust me again. I don't blame him for any of this. However, I think it's best for the both of us if I trade him for coral or another reef safe fish. I'm open to a wide variety of trades, but most interested in SPS, zoanthids, & wrasses.
  9. I've ordered a handful of fish from Diver's Den over the years. They're pretty expensive, but all of the fish have arrived healthy & accepted food immediately.
  10. For further research, see this film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1728975/
  11. Thanks everybody! Such a great time! We really have an amazing bunch of people here in our little aquarium club. We should all hang out more often.
  12. I would like to take a moment to ask that you please don't sweat me about the huge bryopsis patch in Little Debbie's 70 gallon tank. I know! I thought I would have that tank, on which the acrylic is shot, replaced & overhauled a month ago, but had an issue with a supplier.

    NEMS!

+1 I think you might have trouble keeping most any invertebrates happy over the long term with salinity that low.
  14. Oh, and it should be mentioned: LOTS of purple tip green branching frogspawn.
  15. Other possible trades: LA Lakers turbinaria Pink Chalice Red, Purple & green favites A few different favias Orange pavona Bright red mushrooms Fluorescent orange mushrooms Green mushrooms, of course Duncans & more Duncans Rose Stylophora Montipora Undata Idaho Grape montipora Pink monti cap Tricolor acro frags Good ole Pink Birdsnest, Green Birdsnest, Hydnophora (you know the drill) Tons of leather frags And more! If you don't have something I want, most of these things are also available for sale. I'm mostly interested in sps & zoas at the moment.
  16. I have some things at the bar that I am open to trading or selling. A little a this, a little a dat. It'll be fun if people bring a whole bunch of stuff to swap. It's a hangout too, btw, so you don't have bag up a bunch of stuff if you don't feel like it. You can just hang out.
  17. There are a couple of fairly large pieces of equipment, & a fair amount of chaos. I'm not super organized. I'll try to clean it up a little & take some pics that don't look too dungeon-y. For now, here's a foxface doing a flip!
  18. --- "And kaucktail lounges are, at their best, relaxing places..."
  19. When I opened Moloko in the Summer of 2006, I wanted there to be some water incorporated into the design of the place. I'm pretty skeptical of a lot of the ideas around Feng Shui, but I do think that water has a genuine & immediate relaxing effect. Cocktail lounges are, at their best, relaxing places... Relaxing places where there is the possibility for occasional & intermittent excitement. My initial shot at incorporating water into the bar was placing these silly acrylic fishbowls on the wall, with one tiny little minnow - whatever the girl at the wet spot thought was my best bet for a fishbowl - in each. After a couple years, I was bored & annoyed with the fishbowls & started exploring other options. At first I thought about a vertical goldfish column tank. Then, while I was researching more "normal" tanks, I discovered reef tanks, & I was amazed. In the Spring & Summer of 2009 I installed the first 3 tanks at Moloko, a 130, a 70 gallon hex, & a standard Marineland 150. Those are the tanks you see on our website (currently in the process of being updated) molokopdx.com. About 2 years ago, I added a 120 gallon half cylinder, and about 1 year ago, I added a 210 gallon peninsula SPS tank. These tanks all share a central sump & equipment in the basement, for a combined total volume of just over 1000 gallons, currently. I have tons of respect for you who accomplish the tasks of filtration, circulation, & water treatment in a small space below your tank at a noise level that allows you to peacefully watch movies & sleep at night. I have never done that. Shortly after I installed the half cylinder a couple years ago, I had a velvet outbreak that killed all but a few of my fish, while casting about foolishly for "reef-safe cures" killed a lot of my coral. By that time I had a fish & coral collection that had taken almost 5 years & many thousands of dollars to build. It was heartbreaking, & the few fish that survived & are still with me from the prior era hold a special place in my heart. What I'll be posting in this thread is my current point in the process of rebuilding from that event.
  20. I'll be looking to trade this extra large frag of orange setosa for an acro or monti that I don't have.
