  1. Forgot to ask which skimmer you have?
  2. Here's a video that shows how to cut the tab between chamber 1 and 2
  3. I'll make some calls and see if I can't get some pricing. Add a post if you are interested so we can keep a general list of peeps.
  4. I was thinking about looking into a group buy on Apex controllers but I wanted to gauge rough interest first. Any takers? I see two of us on the list so far. Great deal. Link to Apex Group Buy Details
  5. Dump the bioballs and get an Intank Media Basket and out floss, purigen and Chemi-pure in the order in it. Get a Maxijet 1200 pump and widen the notch between chamber 1 and 2 in the back - this will give you more flow. Instead of the Maxijet you could try a Rio 6HF but the one unit I got was pretty noisy so I'm not sold on it. Don't bother with anything else except a Vortech MP10w ES. Lay down the cash and only cry once. Nothing else even comes close and you will have fewer pieces of equipment in the display area. Upgrade the lighting. Nanocustoms.com is getting ready to release a T5/LED retro fit kit so you can keep the stock hood. I think it will give enough PAR to keep just about anything. If you need to save for a few months then order their house brand PC bulbs which will give you a bump of about 20% in lighting over the stock bulbs. Ditch the sponge between chamber 2 and 3 also. That should keep you busy for a little bit.
  6. I sent you a PM on the RODI / pump / Elos kits
  7. Saying he (Tim) has "some frogspawn" is like saying Costco has some rolls of toilet paper (laugh)
  8. Here's a link to another guy at Nano-Reef.com making them for a sort of reasonable price. Lots of pics in the thread to get ideas from. Mesh Covers
  9. Pretty cool I think my debate of which controller to get just got a littler easier. Highlights: Wirelessly controls any of Ecotech’s wireless pumps (WWD or EcoSmart). 11 Independent channels to support 11 pumps. Supports Ecotech’s Constant, Reef Crest, Lagoon Random, Pulse, Sync and Anti-Sync modes. Modes of operation can be changed through the day. Plug and Play. Automatically recognized when installed into the system. Pumps can be dynamically added/removed from the system. Two AquaBus connectors for flexible expansion via AquaBus Comes with 3′ AquaBus cable. Fully upgradeable. WXM firmware and pump firmware can be updated for feature enhancement. Led Status indicator and wireless status indicator Compatible with Apex and Apex Lite systems
  10. Reminded me of another good TED talk on Mantis shrimp and trying to capture their speed Holy Mantis Strike Batman!!! There has also been some news lately discussion the vision of the Mantis shrimp and how complex it is: Crazy Vision Crime Fighting Shrimp Vision
  11. Just an FYI - Some cool graphs and a mini review of this light Nanocustoms PAR38 spread
  12. I'm fine going either route also
  13. Re: 30g hex, acrylic sump, PM bullet 1 skimmer and more What are the dimensions on the sump?
  14. Re: A+ for Barrier Reef... my review! Here is a link: http://elosusa.com/store/product/113/aquaplanet-2x250w-4x39-t5-incl-spectra-250w
  15. Re: A+ for Barrier Reef... my review! Alex is talking about the fixture above the open tank. About $2K for a 48" unit if I recall.
  16. Likewise. Maybe we could change the shipping address to a nearby bar. Pass the time faster.
  17. Wait. The actinic bulb was out put a spare in and still nothing so that eliminates the bulb most likely. (You could further test by swapping the actinic with the white/daylight bulb to make sure) You then unplugged the actinic ballast and then used the white ballast and attached it to the actinic fixture and it worked? If that's the case I'd say it was the ballast or what am I missing? If you had tried both a spare actinic bulb and the current working white/daylight bulb AND swapped the ballast and it still didn't work then I'd go with the end cap being the naughty part.
  18. ...would the whole world look like a calcium reactor?
  19. Re: Its here!!!! You might think about getting some strips of glass (maybe 3" wide and a foot or two long) just to practice your technique on the joints first and the build the small cube. Sort of working your way up to the real thing. Saw a tank thread once where the guy mentioned the workers installing his custom used the empty silicon tubes to scrape away the excess and smooth out the joints. Just cut like 2" sections of the tube and then run it down the joint for a nice finish joint.
  20. SPS...sideways...and laughs with joy while he does it
