Hi Kimberlee - FWIW: when I was just beginning I perused liveaquaria.com quite a bit. You can learn care tips and requirements by looking up different corals. It helped me a lot when I was new. Also - another site I use to help keep track of what I have and when I put it in the tank is reefnook.com I wish I would have used it for my first tank, but do use it for my second and it helps because I can never remember when I got a new coral, equipment and so on.
  3. Nice!! I love yumas! Except they almost always die on me, no clue as to why yet. Doesn't stop me from trying though LOL. I would be all over this if you were closer, not going to xmas party, bummer.
  4. Big thanks to Jody at TECO for my order, something I've been wanting for a few months! Also thanks to Kim and Beth for letting me combine my order w/ theirs. Woohoo!! I pretty much suck at taking pictures but I will try later on.
  5. I think I need to step up my posting so I can be a cyberbully too. There sure are some sweet perks! (naughty)
  6. LOL it worked for me! Hubby surprised me with it after it came out. I beat the game the first week, now I'm online. Ha Ha - I am so not the average girl! (laugh) Takin dudes out makes me so happy. :p
  7. I am a pedestrian far more than I am a driver. I have worked downtown PDX for 11 years and have always taken Trimet in. Having said that, I agree w/ Kim that there is far too much hostility. As a pedestrian, I feel it is MY responsibility to watch out for cars, not just have them watch out for me. If I'm at a crosswalk/driveway, and there is a car, I don't cross without making eye contact w/ the driver first. I have, I will admit, cursed someout out or flipped the bird, but only in extreme circumstances and I would NEVER consider beating on someone's car to get my point across. (nutty) On another note, it always gets me when people get impatient for me to cross - and no I'm not one of the lolly gagger crossers - You're in a CAR - I PROMISE you will get to your destination faster than me!!! (laugh)
  8. Holland Lops are great rabbits. We used to have two years ago until my son developed an allergy. Ours were inside, trained to use the litter box so they could have run of the house and had a cage in the corner. Just have to bunny proof cords and such. Great pets, with lots of personality!!
  9. Yeah, that's what I'm deciding LOL. They are beautiful shrimp, but the hacking of a star fish is what gets me. If I knew the legs would come off in one fell swoop that would be one thing, but can't picture myself just hacking and sawing away, yuk. I don't mind throwing oysters and other gross seafood in a blender, but they're already dead lol. Besides, I really want a cool reef safe star fish.
  10. Little FYI bump - Harly took care of the asterina problem. When I got him he started eating one within 5 minutes of being in the tank. Now they are nearly gone. I'm kinda considering keeping him, but most likely you'll see him in the classifieds soon.
  11. Gilliroo - I too have an old house. Honestly I know very little about this - but we had an electrician out a few weeks ago since we were having problems. Ours was a ground problem, but the wiring in our house is a hot mess. Apparently, in order to change the wires to the 3, they would have to fish them out, not a cheap job, but my understand is that is how they would remove/replace the wiring, not tearing into the sheetrock. Just a starting place, but something to think about.
  12. My personal experience - I am no expert: I put 60 pounds of dry rock in my 75 about 8 weeks ago. Right now it's colored up nicely, a far cry from the bleached white look when I put it in. Corraline is growing slowly now, and I can see pods, feather dusters and misc creatures in it. I guess it's officially live. Just keep a good amount of regular ol' live rock in with it, and it should be good to go in no time.
  13. okey-dokey - I will call Isaac and see if he has an idea. I do know that LFS prices are definitely not the same as forum prices, that's why I love buying from my fellow forum members LOL. I will try to get a pic up tonight - although it WILL be a bad pic, with a crappy camera - I will do my best. I'm only thinking of selling this one since I have 3 tiny frags that came off of it so I still have plenty for myself. No clue on price because I rec'd it as a straight across trade. Thanks all.
  14. Nope, didn't even think of that. - I guess I didn't realize that as an option. Good idea.
  15. How do I find out the value (fair selling price) for this coral? I google and google, and mostly all I can find are pictures on other forums. I'm thinking of selling a very nice sized frag (a few inches but I would need to measure) so I can buy some stuff I've got my eye on. I can put up a pic tonight if needed. Thanks.
  16. I have a nice 2 inch sand bend in the 75 - looking for sand sifters. I really like the strange and unusual creatures - so bonus points for references to those. (laugh) I currently have a couple nasarius and a conch - love the conch and his cute little eyeballs and "elephant" trunk. I have 2 olive snails in my 36 and will be getting more of those for the 75. I have heard: diamond goby is a great sand sifter, but will this interfere w/ a potential future yasha/shrimp pair? I already have a neon goby that will be going into the tank this weekend. - comments please. horse shoe crabs don't live very long - why? Would love to hear about more creatures - oddball or not - you use to keep the sand clean! Also - what CUC members do you put in the sump for the detritus build up?
  17. I thought those had cleaning agents in them? Works great for counters though
  18. Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. Finally got the dobie pad and the mag float together last night. WOW! Works great!!
  19. It's just the strangest thing! For the most part zoas grow like crazy in my tank. I have this issue w/ yumas. I have some and really love them and want to collect more. I can't seem to keep the new ones alive, at least the ones I REALLY like... (scary) I don't have a problem paying good money for beautiful corals, only have a problem when they die! (laugh)
  20. Thanks guys. I will just sit and be patient (I hate that part!) and hope for the best. If it goes south, I am happy to buy a frag from you Brad!
