  1. Whats the 35 hex, stand and lighting going for? Sounds like a good seahorse tank?
  2. dibs hey Clay.... I think it's first come first serve!! hahah you should ride up with me mooohhahahalllaa
  3. Welcome! I am in Eugene and new to the hobby. Our excitement to fill the tank has recently taken us up I-5 to purchase items, livestock and just to check out the LFS in other towns!! If you find something you need let me know, I may be able to pick it up for you. The people on this forum are GREAT! Always helpfull and full of knowledge. This may help, created by tidalsculpin a.k.a. joel : http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=102367453637283001201.00046e84db58e31ef3de1&ll=45.383773,-122.762818&spn=0.007535,0.017745&z=16
  4. starfish I have the same issue...wife wants starfish. (wife) I started asking, researching etc. and found that most species only live in a tank for 6-18 months and those who are " in -the-know" don't really know what they eat. When I mention a friend having a sand sifter for 1 year most people say " wow , that's a long time"! Some creatures feed off of star fish also. Most say the tank must be mature to have them, so we are waiting a few more months and then will try the red Fromia. (scratch)
  5. steve's # 503-869-9473 is Steve's phone #. He tried to edit this thread , but it won't allow him to do so ( mabey amount of posts? ) He asked me to add it for him. He can be reached by phone. If anyone needs rock, he wants to move it first before selling anything else...
  6. So far the dogs like the run-off water, the rest of it I am letting go in the back yard. I just extended the run off line and move it around. I have the Coralife unit and it came with a faucet adapter for those in apartments and such. There is a bracket included to mount to the side of the house next to the hose hanger and wa-la.
  7. Stay away from the arrow crab and the star fish. Mabey the red Fromia, but the blue's seem more fragile and niether one before the tank is mature for at least a year I have heard. I have a couple red legged scarlet crabs and a couple green emerald crabs. They seem to behave, but I was also warned. Peppermint shrimp, cleaner and fire shrimp are fun to watch, like the crabs, but haven't caused any harm.
  8. He says "I have to sell the rock and stock 1st before i can break everything else down. Discount to the person who takes everything. If serious please call me 503 869 9473 " I have called him, made contact and will be there Saturday.
  9. Hey, are you still in the same place? Going to be there saturday? ALGAE want me to stop by and pick up some frags and I could also talk you out of the smaller RB?
  10. I have only been doing this for a few months now and had the same question. Was buying from LFS until a budy got one and that we both thought a-ha, we wont have to make the trip to the LFS. I had to make the trip to his place and interupt dinner etc and his kitchen looked like a water factory with both of us using. I bought a RO/DI and it's GREAT! If you own a remote for your TV because you don't want to get off the couch, then why don't you own a RO/DI !!
  11. Joel ( tidalsculpin) had an AWSOME piece a week or two ago from a large breakdown. Had a couple rose bubbles and some coral on it too!
  12. UNKNOWN FISH The Molly Miller Blenny, also known as the Combtooth Blenny!!!! It has to be it!!!
  13. Thanks for the input!

Any one have any experience with Sea horse tanks? Fragile, but what was your experience? What to do/not to do? Thanks, Jon

  16. paintball We are doin Horton ponds on Sunday..thanks for the Marcols tip, I will look em' up!!!!
  17. Brandon...you are a machine!!!! That huge rose bubble is awsome!! Do you still have that smaller one in the front tank? How much? I am trying to talk Clay into heading up this week after work and picking up a big softie in PDX and would like to stop by again..ps the small sps frag is doing well..along with the small pink birdsnest I got from you a month ago.. Must be your water and that new technique you showed me..all of my other sps haven't done as well as the one's I get from you?
  18. tanks pardon the newbee-ness, there are a ton of acronyms I am learning....what's a 40B? :p
  19. off topic post!! Hey it's cooler outside and starting to ramp into a great fall....anyone out there into Paintball?
  20. It's definately a lawnmower blenny..they are fun to watch for sure. I am concearned with mine, he is eating himself out of algea and I hope to keep him well fed in the future!
  21. I figured the " house sitter" was capable of watching dogs, mail etc. and didn't need an extra person comming over to keep an eye on the silent death happening beneath the surface. She did an awsome job flushing them!! She said " I even said a prayer for them". What more can you ask? My wife is the driven support behind this new hobby. I can usually fix it if I can pour gas/diesel in it, shoots paint, has a prop or weighs 90 lbs and makes human size turds. This SW thing is getting frustrating fast. I try to read as many forum threads as I can prior to and during this new hobby and have come to one conclusion......all tanks/fish/people/methods are different. Even if they are identical they will have varied results. I am just looking for as many idea's for disaster diversion.
  22. I am sure most people from time to time leave their tanks for a day or two, mabey more like I did, and I am trying to get a feel from you all on how to deal with the frustration the day you come back. dj_gianti is starting a rehab center and I think that is where I will end up! I have a 49G bowfront corner with an Ehiem pro2 canister and a Remora C skimmer. The Skimmer, on occasion, has just started producing a huge ammount of liquid and then back to normal. Luckily Liquid Sunshine exchanged the drain model that I wanted for the drain model that I now have ( they are awsome!! ) and it has been through the break in period, but still all across the board on liquid no matter how the cup is adjusted. I left for the weekend and unplugged it. Advice that I had been given after having to do an Emergency repair and 15 gallon water replacement for a freind who left for a few days and soaked the neighbors downstairs! I am gone 2nd day and 1 fish died, told sitter to remove and notify if something looked-smelled-felt weird or wet ( wow, that brings back alot of highschool memories...anyway) and she called on the 3rd day,,,another fish!!! Crap!! Help...Clay...what's wrong. He drove over and inspected evertything ( THANKS CLAY!!). Salt-ok, water quality-ok, temp-ok...Scum forming ontop of water-NOT OK. What do you suggest? I have 2 Koralina 2's and he pointed one upward to disturb the surface and create better oxygenated water. Do I add another to do this while I am gone? Do I have the living room tiled and a drain in the floor installed with a water top-off system just in case? Do I take a picture, empty the tank and install the picture on the back of the glass? What did you guys/gals do in the begining to work through similar issues? Thanks, Jon
