  1. my old 180 broke at the top, (my fault, long story), this is my new 1. old 1 had black back, the blue back helps with the lighting. 2 250 watt halides with 2 actinic whites & 2 actinic blues. another halide over my sump for a frag tank. skimmer is missing from sump cause i was not done setting the new tank up, fish are missing from the tank cause they have another week of quarantine to go. I was a member along time ago, club was going in direction i did not have any interest in, am thinking about joining again. later

  2. WCD

swcd= switch water current deflector (something like that I'm not right I know)

But basically it is an alternating current device. You can have the return or whatever alternate between 2 returns on each side of the tank.

    2 returns,

that would be 2 returns, 1 on each side. just clarifying. my swcd working for 2 1\2 years, no problems

  3. does anyone have a swcd that is dead? i was wondering if the innards could be used for a diy sea swirl, since the gears are driven by the water entering it? i don't know how it is put together, since i have never taken 1 apart. just wondering(scratch)(scratch)

  4. qt tank

i am going with qt tank, if i can swing. letting the ick take it's course will end killing the powder blue, it will not survive it. i have had everything else long it enuff it must be immune, will take everything out, for 4-6 weeks, do the hyposalinty trick, see if that helps. I guess i need a refractometer, anyone have 1 of those?

  5. sounds likea qt tank is the way to go, i figure i would need a 75-100, anyone got one they are not using, want to get rid of? prolly too late for the powder blue, but sounds like i should qt the rest of the fish, since the blue did not show signs of ick until it was in my tank for a couple weeks, & start off fresh.

  6. QT tank

QT tanks don't work for me either. soon as i put the cured fish back in the community tank, ich starts all over again. i need to figure what is up with the community tank. sump is in the garage, water temp is tween 74-76 at night

  7. i have a powder blue that has had ick for 3 weeks, garlic is keeping it alive, still frisky & eating, but i think the ick is eating him alive. fins are tattered. i have heard that a sterilizer would might help, anyone have they are looking to get rid of? if not, can anyone recommend one for 180 gallons of water? Manufacturer, size? thanks

  8. hippo

spends most of the time laying on a rock, resting against the back of the tank so he can't fall off, gets frisky when food comes along, getting color back already, so i think he will make. usually when it is as bad a shape as this one, other fish run them to death, cause they don't want the sick, lame & lazy around. no one bothers him at all, lets him, lets him lay around. expecting a group fish hug here shortly.

on another note, see the pic where my rbta is riding around on a snail.. never mind, will post it later, dinner gotta resize it

  9. too make a long story short & not going into how he was able, I have a 2" blue hippo that managed to swim into my overflow 2&1\2 months ago. thought it had died & gone to reef heaven. found it yesterday, skinnier than a piece of paper, no color hardly, weak as heck. had to tear the tank down to get to it, another story about why. I think it will be alright, wifey calls it the "x-mas miracle."
