  1. Just like me to be a day late, and a dollar short...Or an hour late and a frag short, or just late and short...DOH! No biggie, it sure seemed like you all had fun. Thanks for the nice idea and for offering the prizes CA2OR! Enjoy the sunshine everybody. Mark
  2. re: CL scammers... I was going to buy it, but I am still waiting for my hundreds of thousands of dollars to arrive from the Nigerian Finance Minister to whom I sent my bank details. As soon as the funds come, I'm there. Sorry Lowman, couldn't resist. (laugh)
  3. I had it hooked up and found the noise reasonable. It never bothered me. But noise level is subjective. Let me know if you have additional questions. Mark
  4. Wasn't it warm yesterday and today? That's just a taste of what's to come this summer. Bump for a chiller at a good price. Buy now before the temperature (and maybe price (threaten)) goes up. $ 300 obo
  5. have had offers to buy parts of this set up. Prefer to sell it as a complete kit, so price drop to $ 325 OBO.

  7. ...and did I mention no shipping charges if picked up? I live in Lake Oswego and can arrange delivery within a reasonable distance as long as there is a LFS in some prximity of the route (any excuse to visit a reef shop). mark
  8. I've decided to free up some space under my cabinet by changing to an in-sump skimmer. Some lucky soul can take advantage of the situation by nabbing the following skimmer set up which is in excellent mechanical and physical condition: 1) Precision Marine Bullet II skimmer with beckett injection and ball valve, rated for 250 gallon system. Also with ozone input. 2) Precision Marine Waste Collection Cup 3) Danner Mag 18 pump to drive it This system has been on my 180 gallon mixed reef tank for about two years and has been an awesome skimmer. Check out the reviews and details on the fish forums. Thanks for looking.
  9. I'm delighted you all enjoyed the pictures. As everybody knows however, pictures don't really do justice to the exhibits themselves. You have to be there to appreciate the immensity of the displays, as well as the color, design, aquascaping, etc. I highly recommend you all get down there at some stage and plan to spend a day. Mark
  10. I went down to Monterey last week to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. He is a docent for the aquarium as well as a foreign language tour guide (German). Here are some pictures of some of the particularly stunning displays, including a 750+ gallon reef tank and a kelp forest display that you can sit and watch for hours. If you have never been, I'd highly recommend a visit to the Monterey area and certainly a day trip to the aquarium. Enjoy.
  11. Quick comment on the great deals given on some nice zoanthid frags (bigger than expected) as well as the beautiful tank and frag system set up you have in your home. It was a pleasure meeting you both. Wishing you the best in your new family addition as well as bucket training your boxer (enforcer) Take care, mark
  12. Hello Berger, I've read this thread and many others like it over the last 5 years that I've kept reef tanks, regarding the use of "chemicals" to treat outbreaks of cyanobacteria. Invariably, there are replies from both opposite perspectives: 1) Treat the source of the problem and you'll never have to use chemicals to clear it up; 2) Use the chemicals, as they are fine for the infrequent treatment of the problem. Like everything in this hobby, dissenting opinions are rampant. The reality of this issue and most others in reefkeeping is that there is a heck of lot of grey area between the extremes. Naturally, good husbandry techniques and a dedication to maintenance are critical to helping to eliminate this problem, and to maintaining a generally healthy tank. This is the ideal resolution. However, in the real world, a commitment to this effort over the long term may not ever completely resolve your issue, and in those instances, many, (including myself) have resorted to products like Chemi-Clean and had favorable results. These forums provide an excellent means to post ideas and get feedback, however they rarely provide you, or anyone for that matter, with the absolute answer we'd all hope to receive. As I'm sure you recognize, everyone has an opinion in this hobby. All you can do is solicit info, filter it down and ultimately make your own decision. Good luck with yours. Mark
  13. I've just been "memberized" not more than 5 minutes ago. On behalf of all the brand new members of the club, I'm willing to win this yuma and become the poster child for the success of this method of recruiting...(clap) Great idea! and oh yeah, share the love! Mark
  14. The local community does "Share the Love" frequently through ideas, comments, feedback, and yes, many have given free corals too! Thanks for the great idea! Count me in.
  15. When you empty your skimmate cup and come close to yakking in your mouth, and you think to yourself "now that's cool".
  16. Hello Northwest Reefers, I would love to hear any feedback and/or experiences of current or former users of the Deltec 1250 skimmer. A little about me and my system: I am considering buying a used Deltec 1250skimmer for installation on my 180 gallon, normal bioload (4 x 4-5" fish) mixed reef system. I currently run a Precision Marine Bullet II skimmer which requires a 145 watt Mag 18 pump to drive it. My hope is to achieve better skimming, less power consumption, less heat generated (reduced chiller activity) and more space underneath my stand (my tank is a corner pentagon so cabinet space is at a definite premium). If you have comments, feedback, personal experience, or recommendations to share, I'd love to hear them (clap) BTW, my sump space for an internal skimmer is limited to 7.5" x 12" and my cabinet space for an external skimmer is 9" x 11". Thanks in advance for any guidance or direction you might offer. All, either positive or negative, would be very much appreciated. Mark
  17. Glad to hear that news. You got double for your trouble. By the way, what is an "FS" in your original post?
  18. Thanks Husker, Kyle down there says to bring it in and they'll take a look. I appreciate the recommendation. Mark
  19. I over tightened one of the plastic fixtures to stop a leak and the next thing you know... Has anyone got a recommendation for a local company (Portland area) that can fix a 1/3 HP Prime Chiller from Current? Thanks for any direction you might provide. Mark
