  1. I got one like that also from OIAB. He called it a montipora. I have mine on a frag rack near a bunch of other corals. I should move it before it becomes a problem.

    dsoz

Yes the auction I had won had it also listed as a Monti, plus the photo had the purple as I explained above-(flame)

Odd, I have never seen purple in it-maybe something to do during the uploading process-(threaten)

Not a monti people-Hmm misrepresented and I dont know better, figured the seller knew what he was selling-(flame)

    Did I mention-(flame)(flame)(flame)(flame)(flame)

  2. Thats definitely Hydnophora.

Your 2nd pic most likely is Hydnophora but I just want a better shot of it. Did you get it @ SWF?

It was purchased from OIAB but the pic of it when I was bidding had all the "nubs" if I can call them that somewhat purple so it did not look like a Hydno-

Plus it was being sold as a Monti-(flame)

  3. I wouldn't frag your other piece unless you want to. usually recession will keep going but that looks more like a sting so it may be done' date=' and still have a chance to heal a little too. As long as polyps are still out you are looking okay.[/quote']

I was not fragging it. It is on the base and if it dies off I dont think it will continue. I caught it early. The reason is its so faded is how it was mounted in the tank-its only the bottom right corner that is effected the lack of color is because it was shaded-the othersides color is fine.

    Thanks

    Hey want a hydno anybody-PM's accepted-:D

  4. 1st pic is A. Horrida.

2nd could be Hydnophora but I'm not sure yet. You got another pic of it?

I cant get photobucket to upload. I googled "Hydnophora" and saw one at live aquaria they were calling a horn coral-looks the same and is a Hydnophora.

I had a Hydno in the past but it may have been a different strain-it did not encrust like this one,

Here is the other I had

    P1070089.jpg

    Thanks for the ID

    I can't believe I replaced what I had-(nutty)

  5. second is a encrusting hydro. Just another type... first looks not good' date=' better just bring it to me;)[/quote']

Hydno-Hydro what ever-What an idiot I am. Man I gave my branching Hydno away before it became an issue-I did not realize the bat rastards came in rock encrusting-

Any idea on how much I need to pay someone to take it-LOL

Do you think its worth 25.00 bucks? I paid 28.00 from OIAB and it has doubled in size???

    Hydno(flame)(flame)

Still need help on the first-its staying

  6. The 1st pic is not the best and this coral is normally light green. I noticed today that the 2nd photo had grown out to where it was touching the mystery acro. Well enough said, it has really put the hurts to the acro.

The 2nd is a rock encrusting and is similar to the Hydno's external polyp type "feelers" Heck I don't know what to call them.

Any help is appreciated-if anyone has any idea of what I might expect in trade value the 2nd one has been served eviction papers

    Thanks in advance

  7. hey byrd, what kinda water parameters, lighting and whatnot do these need? what do they look like when they're grown out? i might be interested in taking one off your hands.

    thanks man

Good question-I found this online although this is not a digitata, basiclly same info-IMO

    Montipora Digitata Ideal Environment

Montipora digitata are best kept in moderate to high flow water conditions. Lighting for Montipora digitata, like all corals, is very important due to the photosynthesis process. This coral can handle the more concentrated heavy light of metal halides, or T-5 florescents and VHOs. They need at least three watts per gallon of a lighting method to thrive in a reef aquarium. Similar to other corals, Montipora digitata do best when given weekly feedings of micro-plankton to promote their growth.

    Montipora Digitata Additives

In addition to maintaining a moderate water condition, Montipora digitata benefit from added calcium and strontium in the tank water. Calcium is integral to skeletal growth of the coral. This chemical should be kept in the 400-450 mg/l range. Alkalinity, an inorganic carbon source, is a helpful addition to the tank for Montipora digitata as a part of the photosynthesis process. This should be maintained at 160 mg/l or ~3.25 meq/l. Biocarbonates, an alkalinity booster, can also be added to promote the coral growth and health.

    Montipora Digitata Conditions

Montipora digitata are easy to maintain and can grow rapidly with proper maintenance. The water temperature should stay between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit with pH levels between 8.1-8.4, The dKH should be 8-12 and sq at 1.023-1.025. These are typical water conditions for many montipora and small polyp stony corals.

I have two towers from upgrades a year ago-just collecting dust they have been formatted and are back to the original, I have done all windows updates but I am sure there are more to get.

This one has Microsoft Mapoint 2009

    Microsoft office professional 2003

    XP home edition

  9. I would get top dollar for these specimens.

you said "2 tanks ago". What went wrong? Did the plastic/acrylic melt/warp?

No I caught the "reef addiction" again. I had it many years ago and after many meetings I kicked the habit-(laugh)

Then last November I saw a nano and it was all over. I bought and nano and then upgraded to the truvu, then decided if I am really going to enjoy it I dont want any scratches so I went glass.

    And here I am-DOH!

  10. I have a xbox maybe you can help me out with a few back ups????

    Hey now get in line-LOL

Hey Randy are you talking xbox or xbox 360. I HAD a modded xbox with the monster hard drive, rip your games to it and BOOM play directly from the hard drive, no need for the "original" copy.

Federal offense subject to 250,000 dollar fine and 5 years in jail per pirated game.

I got rid of all my consoles, yea thats it, I got rid of them

  11. DUUUDE, how did you get your 360 modded, my guy (years ago) told me it was not possibble. I got my PS2, Wii, and old xbox modded (600 GigaByte HD)-to save back ups of my originals-(laugh)

    Hmmmm

Do you place the original in the Xbox and rip it to a hard drive or do you use a decryptor and Image Burn etc....???

    Could be interested

  12. Thanks for reading this!

    I have a cube tank, 24" x 24".

My pendant MH has to go ... i need something that blocks excess light from shining around the tank...into my front room and the eyes of little ones.

Looks like you got your answers but what I did (2 tanks ago)......

I had mine above my tank but not that high, I went to taps plastics and got sheets of black plastic that I placed in front and the sides, had to glue pea size pices of plastic on the tank so it would keep the plastic from falling, plus I cut the plastic like a pyramid sort of so it joined somewhat at the top, not the prettiest but I dont know that pendants are meant to be "blocked". You may want to lower it a bit so you dont much light passing the edges-but I'm sure you mayhave tried that,

The other option which may net you some cash-Sell the little ones, this time of year you will get top dollar-

    Good luck!

  13. Ok, so 3 month old bulbs are giving me values as follows

    top left JUST below water-1000

    top middle-500

    top right-1100

    middle left-420

    middle middle-500

    middle right-600

    bottom left-300

    bottom middle-275

    bottom right-360

    when they were brand new my range across the top from left to right was;

    1120,700,1200

    middle from left to right;

    600,600,710

    bottom left to right;

    410, 280, 420

Granted I have changed up my rock work slightly and have some corals I did not. Overall after 3 months (or 25% of expected/recommended life span) of use I would say these are pretty strong numbers.

I will save these numbers and start checking monthly so I can get a better idea as to when exactly they lose their punch.

Keep in mind these bulbs are 22.00 each not 65-90 so if I get 6 months worth I have saved money- My bet is they will lsat more than 6 months.

Heck I dont even now what "name brand" bulbs par levels are after 2 months, maybe they drop at the same ratios.

    Here is a lengthy thread regarding these Ebay bulbs-11 pages-:eek:;

    http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1703568

  14. Brad' date=' after a year of use, did you compare the bulbs again on the par meter? I'm just curious how these cheap bulbs do after they have burned for the full year.[/quote']

I have not and I remember you and I talking about that-My problem is I don't own a tank for more than 4 months before I upgrade-(laugh), you may recall, I got back into this hobby last Thanksgiving, I have had 3 tanks since then, the 1st was the nano, you have that now-!! The next was the 80 gallon TruVu now the 75 gallon glass-Oh and I am done-(threaten)

The first test were when I had my 80 gallon and had dual 150DE MH, now I have the 75 gallon and the dual 250DE.

I have these bulbs on this tank for short of 3 months, I'm going to hit Patrick up and see if I can borrow his Par meter again. I am documenting this stuff so I know how long they last before the par levels drop.

His meter was loaned out last time I was there, if I get it I will post the current results here and I will post what they were at week 1 as well.
