  1. Googled "Stomatella snail ", thats what I got-Thanks Andy!

"Stomatella snails are small fast-moving snails that look more like slugs than regular snails, although they do have small flat shells. There are several species available in the aquarium trade among which Stomatella varia is the most common. Stomatella snails can be bought in fish stores, but are also frequently brought into the aquarium with live rock. It can be hard to know exactly which species one keep if they have been introduced with live rock. They are 100% reef safe. Stomatella snails grow to be less than an inch (2.5 cm), and Stomatella varia will typically stay smaller than ¾ inch (1.9 cm). Stomatella snails come in a wide variety of colors from darker color such as grey, black and green to softer color such as orange and pinkish.

Stomatella snails are mainly night active but can be out and about in the day time as well. The best time to observe them is during the night using a flashlight. When your snails are most active depends on the exact species of Stomatella snail you keep in your aquarium.

Stomatella snails are beneficial for reef aquariums as they are herbivores that will help control micro algae growth. They should not be kept with wrasses such as the four and six line wrasse or certain shrimps like the peppermint shrimp as these predators might eat the snails and be able to quickly decimate a population.

Stomatella snails are just like all other snails very sensitive towards copper and you should not use copper based medications in an aquarium containing these or other snails. There is a large risk that the snails will die and pollute the water.

  2. +1 for Quarantine-practice safe reef keeping.

Great thing about this seller is he does not bump up the contrast on his pics to make them look better than they really are-

Sadly there are sellers here that practice those methods of deceptiveness-(flame)

  3. He's got some very nice corals! Shipping aint bad eather.

I have bought from these guys at least 6 times, its partly their fault my tank is as full as it is and my savings account is as low as it is-

I've bought about 40+ pieces from them and everything is living, except the clam I killed

  4. It ships from Hong Kong. I would be afraid to buy it. You may never get it

He will most likely get it, if not PayPal will refund, but 1st thing I saw was "Hong Kong" and as general rule NEVER buy from anyone that is not shipping from the US.

I've been doing eBay as a seller for nearly 5 years out of the 9 I've been there. I dont buy international and I never ship international-Trouble just waiting to happen-% wise if you are going to get burned its from an overseas seller-FYI

I bought a used Marine Pinpoint PH monitor delivered for 35.00 a few weeks back-works great and I saw a few listed this morning.

    Good luck and be leary

  5. Mike I would never do a inwall without a access from the front. I'll have about 12" for access and it will have a cabinet style access.

I can't amazine cleaning that sucker without front access :)

Good idea, I was talking to my wife about those in walls that have no access-good luck when the magfloat seperates while cleaning the glass-(laugh)

  6. Uhhh [language filter] are you guys saying-(laugh)

I got lost at Wanna's second paragraph-

Glad to see another Slysoft user-I just upgraded the HD version and cant wait for the CloneBD.

That way I dont need to undestand what the heck you guys are saying-LOL

If I want to spend a couple hours I could, but with the slysoft products I can focus on how to frag Xenia

Thats a joke in case you thought I was serious-;)

  7. Usually i find if i cannot backup a DVD with DVDfab, i can either go download the update or wait a few days for enough ppl to complain, and then they update the software and it will work.

Thanks for the info everyone. I guess i can just continue using DVDfab and store the main movie along with the main sound track. That seems like the best route, it keeps the quality, doesn't take up a lot of room, and is easy to play on pretty much any computer.

Its the best "free" route, you should check out that link I included, free 21 day trial and no waiting for new encryptions to be found. For movies with tons of graphics, burn to a DL disc, zero quality degradation

AnyDVDHD and DVD Clone-works EVERY time!!!

  8. On that same note' date=' I have young kids and am starting my Blue Ray collection, is there a way for me to copy them to another disk so they can destroy the copy instead of the original?[/quote']

    http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvdhd.html

They are running a special 43.00 I think for lifetime, yes.. "membership"

It does all the decrypting and I've never had a movie I could not back up-if I wanted to

In the past I used to do the DVD Decrypt, the DVDFab, with IMG Burn or Shrink and it was not failsafe as time went on better encrypting etc, this product is. They have told me they will be having DVD CloneBD for the blu rays. They have a free 21 day trial for their products, you should check it out.

Highly recommended-3 years and going strong!

  9. Quoted from OregonLive "a driving range of 100 miles between charges"

Thats got to be a deal killer, are they targetting people who live in cities and dont go anywhere?

Batteries....I was joking with someone about reducing my carbon footprint when my loaner/rental was a Prius, the Enterprise guy snapped back-"Ya if they new what to do with the batteries"

I told him I was being sarcastic but I found it interesting-

I will wait for the version that allows you to strap an Elk/Deer on the back and still have leg room.

    Nice looking though

  10. If I had new additions to my tank I would say that it is possible they were dying already.

But I try to take an analytical approach and ask, what's new, what's different, what's changed and so on.

Vodka was the only newest addition-

Again, its works for more people than people it does not work for, many variables. I found something that got me to my goal, and does not require such a hands on (daily) approach. I understand you can miss a few days so you are not tied down to the tank, but in comparison, I don't do anything other than change some media every 6 months or so.

Mine current method is fail safe and I have never seen one hint as to "this might be bad"

I wish you and the "goal at hand" the best of luck, I just skin my cat differently-:D and my way does not work in everyone else's application, but it does in my tank

Sorry Doc this is your thread-my apologies

    (backtotopic)(fishhit)

  11. Very nice!

Are you doing the construction part yourself or contracted out?

The wall I woud need to use at my place means I need to demo the fireplace in the L/R-(laugh) Wife is not going for it-YET

Keep posting its coming alone nicely-I looks like you added the recessed ceiling light s as well-add some blue bulbs and wella giant moon lights-J/K

  12. Actually I read really well, one thread went on for 4 years and had science introduced into about 10 pages and not one person had death.

One guy was dosing like 3ml in a 40 gal tank which suprised the heck out of me.

All Ive read is good, maybe you can link the bad stuff,

I think this thread goes into detail pretty good with no problems http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1225324

I'm not bashing the process, sharing my results that were not positive-check out RS if you want more reading but...........

You've read enough, and that's all we can do is read a bunch of results and see what the majority is doing. Like you found, dose on the safe side, twice a day is best, make sure your skimmer is good and working. I can only assume certain things ar more sensitive, clams I got to figure fall in that category.

As long as it works for you that's all that matters. My goal in doing it was a reduction in NO3, my PO4 is already at .01-.02 thanks to my phosban reactor (I assume) and my NO3 is at 0-.01 thanks to the addition of purigen.

What ever gets you to your goal is what matters.

Like many things in this hobby there are multiple ways to achieve the same thing. I just found it strange that you did not find anybody report neg. results.

I was over cautious, I think I read as well as made posts/threads on RS and 3Reef and maybe RC, anyway I looked into the "process" for almost 2 months before giving it a try.

Just this thread alone myself and Impur lost clams, I also lost an angel that I have to attribute to dosing, my green leather toadstool never opened at all the entire week I did it-overall I could sense something was not right. You know the feeling, after doing this a while, you sometimes can tell by just looking at your tank if something is "out of balance"

Anyway enough said, I hope your reach your goal, sounds like your on your way

  13. working on pics...I had gotten MB7 from Marine Depot but now I'm sure Patrick at FantaSeas here in town carries it.

    DrMerle

I will ask him if he is just out. It seems he is carrying the whole line but I looked it over thrice earlier today no MB-7.

Thanks for the fast reply-I have been meaning to PM you about your Aquaripure, it was something I had done A LOT of reading on, but did not see anyone using it until I saw it in your sig.

  14. MB7 is Brightwell's Microbacter 7...it is the first bacteria I used and I have to say blew my doors off. I dosed the first night and the next morning I couldn't believe my eyes...cleanest, clearest water I have ever seen.

Where are you getting the MB7, I had actually looked for that today at SWF.

Be interested in doing some reading on its benefits etc.

Sure would love to see some pics.

Its a good feeling when you get the levels that low huh?

    Congrats

    Pics pleeeez

  15. The weird thing is I spent probably 5 hours straight reading and never found anyone that had a " bad" experience with Vodka dosing. I think I remember 1 guy who dumped a 1/2 a cup of sugar and killed some stuff but most of the problems I noticed was with the Zeo crowd.

From my understanding, if you notice anything going south, cutting back a little on dosing always solves the problems.

Man if I was motivated I would find the threads that I had read that had the "bad" stories-but I dont have a dog n this fight-anymore.

For sure about 1 out of 9 bad- good odds, thats why I gave it a shot-It was only fish and a clam that died, leather stayed shut for a week and so on.

I was only out 300.00 on a positive note I got a fifth of Vodka if I get thirsty-(naughty)

  16. I know I sat down and read for an entire day about both Zeo and Vodka and I never read anyone having a problem with Vodka dosing.

Wow-you did not read enough-glad its working, how about some pics.

Iread plenty of horro stories regarding Vodka dosing but Iknew I was better than all those idiots-(laugh)

I can tell you Maximas clams dont like Vodka dosing ask Impur his and mine both died on day 7.

Anyway every tank is different that I do know

Pics please, I have one more clam I can try and kill!!!

    TIA

  17. In retrospect, all I can say is wow!! For those of you with fabulous tanks, congrats...for those of us you have never really been quite satisfied with the "quality" of our tanks, with the colors, with the growth, with poor doers or unexpected deaths...I urge you to take a look at bacteria dosing as a way up!!

I had fought nitrates and phosphates for years...one step forward, one step back, one step sideways...you know the tune! I added Miracle Mud...I added a denitrator...I've done a million gallons of water changes with zero TDS RO-DI water...I've spent THOUSANDS of $...nothing great to write home about...

Then I started dosing vodka...yes, improvement...added sugar and vinegar...OK, I like it...then I added bacteria!! GHA dying off, SPS LIVING well, no more red slime...colors, growth...WOW!

I realize that it is the combo of things getting the job done, but I strongly urge reefers who feel frustrated and who struggle getting their tanks to the next level to look at bacteria/vodka dosing as a possible way up...(don't forget, get the best skimmer you can afford!) IMHO!!!

    DrMerle

    Congrats!

You know the expression-"A pictures worth a thousand words"

    So please post them up!!!

  18. my best bet for anchoring down soft corals is with fishing line' date=' run it through the coral and then tie it to a piece of rubble rock. Give it a couple of weeks in lower current area to attach, then once attached cut the fishing line and pull it out[/quote']

Charles suggested that too, next time I will go that route, less stress getting a sewing needle stuck through ya than a toothpick-

    Thanks everyone for the ideas

  19. I just stand mine up on the end the came off. just make a crack between a couple little rocks or old snail shells and stuff the sucker in there and put it where it dosent get bothered. Mine take 3 days to a week most the time.

Or better yet flush the guy. No one seems to want them as I have about 15 of them in my frag tank.

Oh no-evryone who comes by and has satwater will get one for visiting-LOL

A LFS has to take em for 5.00 you'ld think. My first small frag I paid 15.00 from Upscales, now its 10x the size maybe more-It dwells in the "LPS' side of the reef-(laugh)
