  1. So I saw the deadline of the 31st, what are you wanting to see as far as the final photo?

    1. Are you wanting a picture with all the polyps closed so you can count.

    2. Opened and people stating the count....

    3. What constitutes a "polyp", I am assuming something that is able to show color and not just the nub.

    Just curious-Thanks

  2. I'm would assume you have "googled" for ideas, here are a few that the titles seemed to imply they are associated.

    Sorry I dont have time to read the info-if I was having that problem I would make the time, but...........

  3. Not sure if I have posted this link up, and I don't know how many chalice fans there are here locally, but for you fellow junkies of the chalice, this is a must see. Nice representation from Jody/Keith (TEC) and Perry (OIAB) nice stuff guys!!

    I'm not responsible for overdrawn bank accounts, out of control credit card purchases or the likes.

    I am going to start a thread for those who have chalices that want to trade/swap/sell etc. Mine are not ready to frag but I have some real winners-IMO

    presently 237 pages of eye candy-(drooler)

    ENJOY the show!!

  5. Agree on the "need to recalibrate" none of the meters, probes I have got were pre calibrated.

    Make sure when you get the calibration solution to let the probe sit in the solution for at least 10-15 minutes before making adjustments-I have calibrated right after putting the probe in the solution to find it was not as accurate as the ones where I have let them sit for a awhile, 5 minutes at least-IMO.

    You may want to follow Clays thread, it seems he is having PH issues.

    Good Luck

  6. A lot has to do with the brand, so I have been told-I have heard that some off brands (like what I use) loose there intensity after about 3-4 months.

    I have been watching that with a par meter-so far 3 months old and they have only lost about 10% of the intensityor its PAR value.

    The 12 month rule is general-IMO

    Editted;

    I read those articles after posting this-Now having read the second, I am not surprised at what I have found in my bulbs-Great read and positive information for me-Thanks!

  7. WOW that was alot of reading-flickr or what ever it was-no offense -dont get angry

    quick summary for photobucket;

    Click button that says upload, next window click "save"

    brings you back to the 1st window, hold mouse pointer over image that drops down 4 choices, right click "copy" on the one that says "IMG"

    paste into thread

    done

    for pics of this size;

  8. Nice equipment combos there guys, had I known what I do now, things would be different but for now I havea ;

    20 gallon sump but it houses;

    Pentair Quiet One 6000 1500 GPH return pump

    HSA-250 skimmer ran w/ mag 9 pump

    Coralife turbo twist 9 watt UV sterizer that is ran by a MJ1200 that also feeds the 2 little fishes Phosban reactor and my calcium reactor (forget the name/model)

    Sump also contains 400 GPH pump to feed chiller thats located in the garage.

    The wife loved it when I drilled 3 holes through the wall-1 for the auto top off feed, 2 for the chiller in/out-go DYI!

    Marine Pinpoint PH controller to run my Calcium reactor-keeps me dialed in-set it and forget it

    Marine pinpoint PH monitor

    P1100308.jpg

    RO/DI(located on other side of wash basin) with booster pump (I have NO water pressure) in laundry room with Dual inline TDS meter-goes through the attic into the garage 35 feet so the booster is really needed!;

    P1100309.jpg

    35 Gallon resivour to hold RO/DI water for water changes and also gravity fed into sump that houses a float valve to keep sump at constant level and maintains SG to 1.025;

    P1100310.jpg

    1/10 HP Chiller by Current keeps everything at 77 degrees;

    P1100312.jpg

    I think that's it.

    For my 1st real tank I like it, next build I do I will have subtle changes

  9. Roger, you bone head, you saw when we went to DJL last week!!!

    here are a couple of pics:

    Nice looking set up Bob- And that nano next to it looks awesome-I always wanted a nano-(laugh)

    Keep us posted with pics and details!!! I got some frags that I can "sell back" to you-LOL-superman, susnset, reverse sunset, pokerstar, rainbow....J/K

  10. It's dishonest - PERIOD (nono) I won't post their name but if you look at their site you can see that the white egg crate is suspiciously blue when showing blue corals and pink with pink ones etc.

    Good point about the eggcrate-I did not realize that-what a noob I am

    I think names should be named. Otherwise this just allows the person to continue to rip people off.

    JMO

    If I had saved the emails that went back and forth I would post them up-long story short after 4 emails I said "I hear you boost the contrast up so the corals looks more vibrant"

    The reply was "what's wrong with that-LOL". I have spoke to at least 8 people who tell me this person dose this, others have actually gave me the name before I even mentioned it.

    but without those emails its all hearsay-and there was no true "Ya I boost the contrast-what about it"

    I figured most if not everyone was against this-its just been nagging away at me.

    Granted I have kept nearly all the corals, as I was interested in the coral, but when its between that person and another selling the same thing, you are (or at least I am) always going to go for the "better" looking coral.-IMHO

  11. Hey guys, if anyone is going to be placing an order, I will split shipping with them if the Miami Hurricane is still available. The caps are posted but I have no place for another cap-Very nice looking.

    The split shipping offer will work for Portland/Vancouver Metro area.

    Hope you don't mind me posting this Jody, if you do let me know and I can delete.

    Thanks again

  12. I think it's kinda funny that some of the people expressing the most concerns are people who have bought from the individual I believe this is about. I can say I haven't for several reasons....this being one of them.

    Lets not get me in hot water, if I had "proof" other than what I have, believe me I would be tossing the responsible party under the bus a few times. I think you and I may be on the same page, but here in the People's Republic of Portland, you must remember, you are innocent even when proved guilty-(laugh).

    Teach me to delete emails huh?

  13. I'm a little surprised to see so much discussion about croping or such. Obviously croping the size of a picture wasn't what was being discussed. I think we all understand the difference between honest and dishonest business practices.

    However, keep in mind that corals can look very different from tank to tank, for very legitimate reasons; different light spectrums, water conditions, water flow, etc. So, unless you know for sure that the photos were doctored, than I wouldn't risk falsely impuning someone's reputation.

    It has nothing to do with cropping, its enhancing the photo to make the color more vibrant than it is.

    I agree about not ruining a persons rep. As everyone can see I have not mentioned any particular person(s). I've been selling on eBay for years, and I can say that 80% of my tanks livestock have come from sellers online.

    Whether its online, here or wherever, my question was really meant as a gauge for see how others feel, I have had people tell me it does not bother them, they know it happens and it is what it is-I tend to disagree (imagine that-(laugh))

    I think most realize if a coral looks "to good to be true" there is a strong chance that the photo has had color enhancement.

    And that is the only part I have issues with. I think some are reading to far into it, I realize everyone's monitors are set different, peoples vision varies and so and so on....

    Its the "altering" of color that is wrong-IMHO

  14. Possibly!

    I always thought they had a more orange base (or at least the little frag of sunset I have does).

    You're right about the bases color on the sunset.

    its some type of danae for sure-duh huh?, I bought this and it was only being called a 'green polyed danae"-(laugh)

    It has a purple rim as it grows, yours looks sort of similar, sort of hard to tell;

  15. I knew what you meant....this is actually what gave me the idea of the competitioin.....we keep trying to increase the quality of zoa's we use to eventually get to that point where we are growing out some crazy (censored). I have considered on several occasions doing just that for a competition. We had action at Mohawks and Candy Apples for the current competition....but I didn't think you guys would have been happy with just 1 polyp each.

    A one polyp start works for me when you are talking about choice zoos

  16. Brad

    Not defending him, but Isaac been busy setting up his shop and has not answered email's, PM's for sometime, I can give you his phone if you want, LMK

    No I got his number-thanks. He was setting up shop last chalices I bought, we actually met there. I just figured he would have replied since he had what I was looking for, and I assumed he logged in occasionally-We'll hook up later.

    Thanks for the offer though

  17. I am thinking that my next tank will have a DSB and I will make my display appear to have sand but it actually wont. Keyword here is "thinking" I do like sand and if I were you with sand already in part of it and the ability to house previously listed inverts and fish' date=' I would add the sand to the remiander of the tank....it would look really nice...IMO[/quote']

    Do your homework on DSB-lots to read and points pro and con.

    I voted sand, but I would not go more than 1 inch maybe slghtly less-I did this in a 20 gallon, and went 2-3 inches in my display. I wish I would have gone the 1/2 to 1 inch route-for no specific reason other than looks and maybe money-mainly looks
