  1. I dont think it really comes down to a number. Whats more important is being in tune with your tank and being able to identify when your corals arentvhappy. I rarely even check my phosphates any more.

While I haven't checked mine in over 8 months, I do think the numbers can be used for a reference base. When my tank is really thriving well I test my tank, I've always used those numbers as a baseline for my personal system to know where it excels.

Guess I see testing kinda backwards than most...

  2. May I ask if you are using ZEOVite? LOVE THESE COLORS! I'm planning to use it in my new tank. Is Zeo the right way to go? Thanks!

No Zeo, personally I'm not a fan of the Zeovit method, it involves a lot of daily dosing and a whole bunch of fancy little expensive bottles that nobody knows exactly what's inside. However most of them smell like vinegar...

There's a build thread on here that has a little more info about my system. It's extremely simple no gfo, the only nutrient removal used is filter socks and a skimmer.

  3. I went there also and it was a no go.........

That time of year I think......

    Probably so...

I was always told to just pour enough in so that it was milky and you couldn't see the frags. Been doing that for a little while and I've never noticed any ill effects. :)

Bayer really is fairly gentile on corals in comparison to a lot of the commercially available dips.

  4. Thank you for the detailed lighting info.  The FM Royal Blue is different from other tubes because most of the other Blue+ type tubes from ATI/KZ/Giesemann have a peak around 460+nm...whereas the FM tube peaks at around 450nm.  Krzysztof Tryc uses these tubes and rates them well.  The 450nm peak fluoresces pigments a little better.  The Radium 20K MH has a massive 450nm peak as well.  I really like your tube lineup; very balanced and covers the full spectrum nicely.

I bought my Nikon D70 around 15 years ago as well. Unfortunately it died a couple of weeks ago.  I've now moved over to Canon because my brothers shoot Canon and have loads of Canon gear.  I am keeping all my Nikon lenses though; including the legendary 105mm f2.5 Nikkor (all metal  construction, made in Japan etc).

Your port hole looks way better than mine!  I made mine out of large old mug and a piece of square acrylic. :D

Krzysztof is actually one of the people who recommended trying the FM tubes over the Blue+.

I've had Nikons forever so every time I pick up a Canon is feels completely backwards lol.

  5. We can close the thread... Decided I can't get rid of this thing, it's just too [language filter] nice and I know it'll be too hard if I want to replace it down the road.

That and my wife told me it's her favorite thing in the tank and I can't get rid of it lol.

  6. Yep, Travis got two very nice and healthy ones in. But you're right mines still nicer.

Ritteri's take time and patience at first but once they settle in and really color up they're a great anemone. Best part is they will rarely ever go for a walk in your tank unlike most anemones.

  7. That is excellent!  Your tank is the cleanest, great share.

For you acrylic guys, wannareef / Charles makes an attachment blade for kent scrapers that works extremely well.  Roy/Stylaster has an amazing clean acrylic tank and he turned me onto them.

Recently a great guy up here in Longview (Eric) with a CNC started making a kent scraper out of acyrlic with a similar design that works great also.

Nice, James has been making those for quite some time. At one point I know he was working with Kent directly to start selling them his style of scraper since it works about 1000x better than Kents version of an acrylic scraper.

  8. Great idea! Have you joined the dollar shave club?

Actually I did a long time ago, really good razors and they're cheap even compared to buying them at costco!

Tunze care is the way to go if you wanna keep your fingers lol best 80 bucks i spent

Fingers... pfft, you've got ten of them lol.

The Tunze does look nice. My daily wipe down is with an Algae Free magnet that works really well but when it comes to the stubborn stuff this works like a hot knife through butter.

  9. So a lot of people have asked me how I keep my tank so clean, well I'll share my secret.

**DISCLAIMER** IF YOU CUT YOUR FINGER OFF, CUT A FISH IN HALF, YOUR KID CUTS THE CATS EAR OFF OR WORSE, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY!

This will also slice the foot right off a turbo snail with one gentle swipe... You can probably guess how I know lol.

So with that said, it's nothing more than a pair of razor blades hot glued to a Kent scraper. Takes me a swipe or two to take care of coraline or any other stubborn to remove algae.

I prefer hot glue cause it's easy to remove the blades and put new ones on when these start to get dull. Best way to remove the blades with with a pair of pliers and NOT your fingers!
