  1. John, Thank you for the link. That is similar to the article I read many years ago. When I am done here I will be placing that probe in the sump.
  2. dsoz, You raise a vaid point (well a couple actually), but it can't hurt anything.
  3. With the advent of getting a larger tank, I have a few new problems. The tank came with a sump, but it is kinda small. Actually really small, hard to fit what I needed to in there, and that is with out a refugium. I am going to build my sump in a larger tank. But this brings to mind this question. How much of my skimmer can be under water? It is a PCI RS1000 I think. Doran
  4. When I bought my tank, unbeknownst to me, there was a grounding wire in with all the stuff. I remember reading something years ago about how you should keep a grounding wire in a tank to remove stray voltage. Is this still a good idea? Or has technology fixed that issue?
  5. Dsoz, Thank you for the info. I am doing my husbandly duty to find out what my wife asks me to find out.
  6. jdy, We wont run you off, you just have to "buy our friendship" with discounts. Just kidding. I have nothing against the people who work for petco. In fact it is great that someone there actually knows about fish.
  7. My wife really wants to get a Chocolate Chip Star. Are they reef safe? What do they eat? Also, my wife wants a clam. I know that they generally get HUGE. Are there any speices/kinds that stay small, yet are pretty like the gigas ones?
  8. What exactly was last years sale on aga tanks? $1 a gallon?
  9. Those dimensions would make the tank, 90 dimensional gallons.
  10. Dennis, I completely understand what you mean. When I met my wife I had 16 FW tanks. We had only known each other like 2 weeks, and I told her, "If you ever make me choose between fish and you, you will loose." Long story short.... She learned to like my hobby.
  11. Salty, You could probably ask "What does 'Marine Tank' mean?" here, and people would politely answer you.
  12. Impur, Where did you get the calibration fluid? I can't seem to find the link to it in the other thread.
  13. Here are a couple pics to get you started. Nothing fancy. The water is a lot clearer now, then when I took the pic of the clown.
  14. Nyles, Any difference in the differnt types/brands, as long as they are designed for aquarium use?
  15. Awesome. I looked on eBay to see how much they run. I thought they were expensive, but they run like 20-50 depending on brand and shipping. I'll probably buy one there, unless someone local has one for sale.
  16. Thanks for the quick reply No I haven't tested in with a refractometer. Any shops in the Portland area have one I could take a sample to?
  17. Hey everyone, I inhereted some fish, but I have a problem. The water they are used to is measuring 1.032 on BOTH my hydrometers. Since it on both of them I am inclined to beleive it is correct. The fish are the following: 1 Lemonpeal Angel 1 HUGE Marron Clown (Assumedly female, due to size) 2 green Chromis I need to lower the salinity of the water they are in. How slowly should I do it? What should I lower it to?
  18. 1/8th inch sould be fine. That is what I used in FW applications from lids to aquascaping. Strong enough not to break under its own weight, and thin enough to be workable.
  19. Finally got most of everything set up. Here is a brief list of what I know I got. Probably got more just haven't found it yet. 90 gallon tank. Stand Canopy (Will have to retrofit lights into it, previosly fishonly tank) Overflow box Sump Lids for tank LARGE Maroon Clown Lemon Peel Angel (Yes a real one) 2 green chromis About 100 pounds of sand 3 hermit crabs (probably more only saw three) 100 or so pounds of live rock Bunches of supplies like test kits, etc. And I paid about the same as a 55 would have cost at an LFS or bigbox.
  20. Hey all, As some of you know my 55 got a leak and I had to tear it down before it really got set up. Today, my wife bought me a 90 gallon complete setup SW/Reef tank that has already been cycled. I am on my way to pick up as soon as I am done typing this. Pics to follow.
  21. I am interested in the Live Rock. What do you want for it?
  22. Did you build the stand, or just retrofit it to your specs?
  23. Spectra, Thank you. That may be the way I go. Doran
  24. I started out with a 20 gallon long tank. I got my inspiration from the tank in the photo below. (I can't remember where I found this picture, and tis not mine.) My skimmer didn't quite fit across the short part of the 20 long, so I had to be creative. I put it going the other way, and put the "de-bubbling baffles" next to the skimmer on the short side of the tank. Can't find the other picture I took, but when I find it, I will post it.
