  1. Even if you cant do this til a week or two from now PM me, some are waiting on the New models anyway, last time this took over a month to actually happen from people trickling in so if you have interest for a later date still PM.

Last time people actually covered other people waiting on Tax returns and such so theres that possibilty as well

  2. I would be willing to donate my strontium test kit as sort of a PNWMAS kit everyone could pass around if they are curious. I would say those that had over 6 months on their Tanks and did small to no water changes may be interested.

Those that dose may be interested too

The one requirement would be a thorough breakdown of your maintenance and your results ( Type of salt you use, how often you do water changes, and %, Dosing....etc.

this way we could see the results club wide and come to our own conclusions

  3. Blaming the system/boyfriend doesn't help her. Stewing over what he did is only going to create a chasm in your life, his and ...moving on and growing from this means forgiving him for being an idiot and HELPING him not be an idiot. I promise you that quarantining yourself from him will not mend what has been broken.

    Good LUCK!

Nobody has blamed the system that I know of, I was just curious as to others experiences, I always hear of these people getting 90 days, and basically a slap on the hand and was curious why some pay thousands and arent allowed to drive for a year and a half. Driving drunk is driving drunk you would think especially when the person blows the lowest amount, now if someone blows a 5th of Jack Daniels into the breathalyzer I would see a difference. my daughter is 5' tall, maybe a buck and a few pennies in weight, robitussian probably makes her intoxicated. Kids will be kids and if you're going to jack someone, I would think an adult should be the one smart enough to know better.

As far as her boyfriend goes, lets just say hes done alot more than pull her E-Brake and caused this fiasco, the list has several items on it that warrant his safety far from my reach.

  4. DANG!! BUDDY!! I AM SO SORRY!! That judge is not very nice!! She needed a good attorney!! You can never tread lightly on stuff in oregon, expect the worst and prepare for it!! Again I am so sorry!! I got a duii and totally messed everything I could up with it! I ended up shelling out close to 25,000.00 and all in all 6 months in jail!! I am so glad that was years ago.

    Clay

Ouch, 25K? plus 6 months in jail. Yikes

Back in the midwest my wifes brother has had multiple DWIs starting decades ago and he still gets slapped with 1 month work release, fine, 90 day type sentences and Im guessing hes on his 4th or 5th by now but weirdly enough they drop off your record after so many years making a 5th his 3rd type scenerio.

  5. So she's a minor? Or was' date=' at the time? That does change things; here in WA the rules are much stricter and the punishments more severe than for adults.[/quote']Yep she was a minor, thus getting a DUI in the first place. Had she been an adult she would have been legal.
  6. Something has to be missing here. First in Oregon a first offense duii is only a 90 suspension period unless you refuse the breathalyzer then it would be a year. Secondly first offense duii are usually allowed diversion and I have never seen a first time offender be required to install a breathalyzer in thier car. Was she also charged with some level of assault for injuries resulting from the wreck? Was she on parole/ probation for some prior alcohol related offense? Just doesn't add up.
Nope, first offense, only breathaylizer ever taken and wasnt taken at the accident, they actually took her to the Polk Co. sherriffs office and administered the test because she passed all the sobriaty tests but he still smelled booze. This is after he had taken her license saying " theyre going to take this anyway, so I will just keep it". This is before they even performed a breathaylizer or anything, she still has not seen her license since mid October 08.

They did NOT grant her diversion, supposedly this judge ( Salem?) has it out for female minors because the same day my daughter was denied diversion another female minor on a first offense also recieved 21 days in jail and another female first offense was not granted diversion as well. Im guessing it was example day in court.

Breathaylizer in the car is MANDANTORY for people that DID NOT get diversion is what the DMV stated to me after I called out of curiosity just now. We're all created equal, depending who we are I guess.

  7. I know four people now that have got DUI's in the last 3 years. Two of them were Commercial Drivers and they don't play around with them at all. No way to get diversion for them. The other two have both got diversion no problem but they were both pulled over for it. No accident was charged to their record or anything. That may make the difference right their. A good boyfriend would be helping to pay those fines since he's the idiot that pulled the brake.

This type of thing is exactly why I don't drink at all. I have a very addictive personality and I get hooked on things and just can't give them up. If I ever drank I think I would be in the slammer in no time. So no drinking for me EVER!

Thats what my friend was back in the Midwest, he was an owner operator and got a DUI and it was over for him, he lives in nowheresville and is now a definite full blown alchy. Its a shame really, he's the type that would give you his home and live in his truck if you were down on your luck. Now he's toast, probably wont live another year.
  8. Huskerduck' date=' I am sorry for all you guys are going through. Unfortunately this is a lesson she is being taught the hard way, but it could have been worse....what if there was an accident and someone in the other vehical died....that would be a something she would have to live with for the rest of her life....if you take that into consideration....the year and a half is a slap on the wrist....I say this because I lost my little brother to a DUI and the kid driver that killed him was 20 by 2 days. I know that his life has made a complete 180 and I hear he has some serious issues as he knew my brother, but I also know that nobody I knows really cares about him or his issues. SOMETIMES....when I think really hard about where he is in his life now....I get a HINT of sorrow or pity felt for him....but then I remember what he did and the cost of his decisions and I quickly remember that I don't care.[/quote']Yeah,

Im really not going through anything, granted it has put her way behind in getting a good start on life but she gets it and lucky enough lives close to where she is going to school and has became a frequent Bus rider. I only asked others experiences out of curiosity not knowing anyone thats had a DUI in decades, atleast here in Oregon. She was supposed to get her license back yesterday I was informed but couldnt because she still needs 4 more classes and cant afford the In car Breathylizer so she will probably go another 6 months being a student.

The really weird thing is, the in car Breathylizers are a joke if you really think about them, if you had to blow in them at every stop light then yes, they would be legit but my wife was telling me about her brother had one in his car and just got others to blow in it, missing the whole point in the first place. Talking to a long time friend who had a DWI back in the midwest, he stated them taking his license actually turned him into an alcholic out of boredom from parking him with nothing to do and feeling sorry for himself about how bad it messed up his life by losing his job and on and on. I guess I had never thought of that aspect. The punishment actually intensifies some peoples drinking problems. Weird how some minds work.

  9. I am not unsympathetic to your daughter, but her idiot of a boyfriend could have caused her to total her car while killing someone...no, they don't mess around anymore with this...I have a friend who got a DUI last year and it [language filter] near wiped him out financially...

We won't speak to how lucky I've been over the years...however, I no longer drink and drive AT ALL, don't want to preach...she has got to do her penance...

    DrMerle

Being a minor (19 at the time) she didnt even have to blow a .80.

She has no sympathy from me either, lets just say her boyfriend and I have not spoke in the year and a half since the incident and he has not been allowed within a mile of me. You're right his little dramatic display could have killed people no doubt, she took on a concrete barrier coming out of west salem on Hwy 22 100 yards before its ending. He ( the moron) had zero consequence due to his actions.

As to speaking of my luck over the years, Im right there with you! I havent drove intoxicated in decades thanks to my non drinking wifes chaffuering expertise. There was a time in my life where I doubt anyone I knew was driving sober and the area I live now I can guarentee on any givin night, 90% of the vehicles on these gravel roads out here are controlled by people way beyond the limit.

It seems the reason she lost her license for 1-1/2 years is because the cop took her license at the incident and said "you wont be needing this anymore" and her court date was 6 months later. This I didnt now until her Mom just informed me.

  10. Oregon does not mess around with this stuff anymore. I had friends get them when I was younger like 10 years ago and it was not that big a thing. But now I know a couple people that got them and it was real bad. Had a friend that got one last year and did 45 days in jail' date=' lost his lisence for a year and all siad and done after classes and fines dropped about 5 k[/quote']Wow

yeah she lost her License for 18 month, had to attend 12 classes @$60 a pop, take 3 Pee tests at $60 a pop, 1K fine and DMV sent her a letter saying she has to install a breathilizer in her vehicle before she can drive again

  11. My daughter and her idiot of a boyfriend went to a party and she drank some, stopped and waited 3 hours knowing she was the "taxi" (I guess she missed the part about 4 hours and weight dependent)They left and her boyfriend pulled the E-Brake at 50 mph then released it when he realized he was one IQ point from being brain dead. Never the less he totalled her $8k Jetta she had just purchased and to this day still owes 3K on.

Well she lost her license obviously after failing the breathilizer and a year and a half later still is without license and theyre making her install a breathilizer in the car and have had her going to classes that supposedly cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars but denied her deferment.

Is this normal? I dont know, what I do know was when I was 21, 95% of the people I knew were driving around hammered and when they got DUI/DWIs it was basically a slap on the hand for first offense. Therefore everyone did it and didnt worry much, I know they stiffend up the laws in the last couple decades but........

Anyway just curious what Oregons first offense DUI fines and loss of license usually is, anyone familiar or had a DUI recently?

  12. Ive always wanted a Mac, the last time I looked into them they had about 1-100th the software available. Several programs I used were specific to Windows at the time ( Vegas Video- originally Sonic Foundry) not to mention the gaming world.

I think their editing software was Final Cut but I just remember no software. The other issue I remember is not being able to build your own Mac, has this changed? I have built my own puters since the mid 90s because it USED to be cost effective.

I also went over a decade without Virus software, infact I just recently bought Bit Defender because my wife wiped out a laptop on our network which also has my theaters HTPC, and my personal computers.

  13. While everyone seems a huge fan of Salifert, I have owned alot of Salifert test that basically test clear or are so close to clear you need laboratory calibrated lighting to distinguish the results. Im not a big fan, not sure where they became the test kit of choice other than " if its expensive, it must be good" theory.

Too me, Salifert test kits seem cheap, like some guy is sitting in his parents basement printing the instructions on a 1992 printer. ( not that Seachems instructions should win an Oscar either) and I like definitive color changes and counting exact numbers coresponding to those changes. with Salifert it seems you are looking at clear to partially blue depending on the light

I do like this paragraph in Seachems test

    Interpretation

This kit is capable of at least 50 strontium determinations and is designed specifically for seawater. The sample is treated and filtered

through an adsorbent to selectively remove the strontium from solution. The filtrate is discarded and the adsorbent is washed to

remove residual sample. The strontium is then eluted from the adsorbent and measured. Natural seawater concentration for

strontium is approximately 8 mg/L. By contrast, magnesium is present at about 1,300 mg/L and calcium at about 400 mg/L; together

they exceed strontium by over 200 fold. Magnesium and calcium are chemically quite similar to strontium, thus, the measurement of

strontium in the presence of high concentrations of magnesium and calcium with this kit requires meticulous attention to the

instructions. To get the correct perspective, imagine that you are trying to find and count 8 lavender marbles in a jar containing

1,300 purple and 400 magenta marbles.

  14. When looking at the intructions go to 5. first line and all the way right is a red asteric, which is basically repeating an entire step but it doesnt tell you this until the test is done, the print is very small and the red asteric is missed with ease

  15. Yes I bought the $40 kit and its a real pain in the rear, the instructions need to be read very clearly and theres one part where they break up a sentence in a way that made me have to re-perform the test and its about a 30 minute test to begin with.

Without digging up the test and finding the part that was confusing, I remember they put a period or a red dash or something at the end of a sentence with a space and far to the right, then starting another step that refers back to a previous step.

Not only is the test long and caustic, instructions werent proof read well before going to print

    I dose

  16. They also have a rebuild kit that comes with a shaft and a couple little parts. The wetsides will go bad, might be 2 days might be 5 years. Regardless, a spare wetside would allow you to switch it out and send ecotech the broken one under warranty never losing flow.

I just want a spare laying around for the day one goes bad, the ecotech guy told me the rebuild kit will fix them 99% of the time.
