  1. I have the rock out of water. How long can the polyps stay out of water as long as I keep them moist? I assume he'll eventually come out looking for water..?
  2. Who would want to put such a voracious predator into their reef tank?? I don't wanna put him in my quarantine tank, as I have a few smallish fish in there that haven't reached the 2-wk mark yet to go into the big tank.. I don't wanna loose my bright yellow polyps either (sad) ..Is there a way to flush him out of the rock so I can keep it? I just want it OUT of there before it moves into another rock and I've no way to catch it.
  3. ACK! When I fed the tank tonight, I was shocked to see a tiny 1/2-3/4" thing that looked like a cricket mole dart out of a hole in a rock and try to grab a mysid floating by, then dart back into the hole (going backwards). It was so fast I couldn't see anything except that it reminded me of a dreaded mantis shrimp the way it moved. I couldn't get a great look at it, except the front of the hole, and it has those two hitched up front arms like a praying mantis does. (scary) I'm in a COMPLETE PANIC that I have a mantis shrimp in my tank (a juvenile one). I was able to get one 1/2decent photo of it's head when it peaked out. PLEASE tell me it's something else. It's living in the rock I just got in from VividAquariums (flame) If it IS a mantis, at least I know where he's living and I can take the rock out and kill him. If I have to do that, how can I drive him out of the rock and kill him w/o hurting my yellow colony? Intensely high salinity?
  4. Thanks =) BTW, unrelated side question: Can white-striped and gold-striped maroons hook up? I heard yes from some people, no from others...
  5. Thanks! I googled, and it is Sunlight Supply... http://www.sunlightsupply.com/default.cfm?sid=4075EC11E0815D5534A93DBC5D735929& You're also right that I can't buy directly from them. I have to buy through a dealer. That sucks. It blows to pay a middle man when you live a few miles from the source. (flame) I sometimes think that the only way to NOT get soaked in this hobby is to open your own shop; then you can get whatever you want wholesale.
  6. I was looking at a coral banded shrimp today, but then I thought I'd wait. Should I not put one in my tank? I read it was "reef safe with caution"..?
  7. Someone was telling me that there was a specialty lighting shop in N Vancouver that has great bulbs. Can someone tell me what/where that is? Thanks!

Impur - what are they, then? (the shark thingy is supposed to be a NON-religious insignia)
  9. Have you checked out http://www.reefermadness.us/RM-Hand-Picked.htm yet? They have some good stuff and they're in the Los Angeles area, so shipping would be much less.

Thanks for the sites for the D70 and Thom Hogan. I googled all morning yesterday and couldn't find the manual, for some reason. I've saved both in my favs since it'd prob take a ream of paper and whole toner cartridge to print it all out. And thanks for all the nice words.. (shy) I'm new but love it! Impur - those are beautiful. They look like sunflowers. Unrelated to topic: What do you think of this car insignia? I'm thinking of getting one for the truck. Someone needs to make one that has a square around it (like a tank) and says REEF in the center...

We had to completely drain it, remove all the sands, clean the rocks, and start all over about 3 wks ago (Pat/SaltwaterFanta-seas was here), so we started fresh at that point. The phosphates had killed most of the corals and the algae snuffed out the coralline. (sad) So it looks like a brand-new tank again, unfortunately... (Phosphates today were still barely trace! YAY) (The zoo on the bottom middle of the "tankleft" picture also just arrived via FedEx yesterday afternoon, so it's only half open thus far.) Anyway, enough disclaimers.. Here it is =)

Got the poker from vividaquarium... Great service/delivery and the corals looked great, but they're pricey pricey pricey When I purchased the purple people eaters, that's what they told me they were... Who knows? Maybe it's some other kind..?
  13. Vnz - I LOVE that video rofl I've sent it to almost everyone in my address book
  14. I hadn't seen that Red Sea before- It looks amazing. YOWZA @ $600. So is the concensus here leaning towards the Finnex or the Red Sea?

I'm trying to figure out my Nikon D70 still (even though I've had it forever).. I can't find my manual. (flame) These are some pics from this morning. The PPEs I've had since I first set up the tank. I got the poker star and yellows yesterday via online order. (clap)
  16. Me, at tack shop: "Um, yeah, hi,.. I'm looking to get a pair of your shoulder-high cow obstetric gloves please." Man at tack shop: *blink* Me: "It's for my tank.. Seriously.." Man: "Suuuuuuurrreeeee" My husband, when I get home: "Hey! What're those for?!" *ponder* I think maybe I'll just deal with the arm infection.
  17. It's impossible to not put my right wrist in saltwater until it heals completely. My last back-hand burn took over 3 weeks to heal (and I still have a permanent Stigmata scar). I'm right-handed! Who's gonna sacrafice hand tissue to feed our Cujo clown?? Um.. after Andy and Bob's postings, I think I'll steer clear of the potluck (sick)
  18. Holly <- now suspects that the untimely death of Baxter's clown was no accident (whistle)
  19. You take far more serious risks by even eating at Toxic Hell. That meat arrives grey. I can't wait for my first opportunity to use that vomiting smiley, cuz that's the BEST lol
  20. LOL Stacy I have a burn on my right wrist the size and shape of a large whole pecan. It's burning like a MOFO, as it's starting to develop that lovely swollen dead-red that only the Third-Degree Burn can express. It only made contact for a split second! It made that scrumptuous fajita sizzle sound, too. (Hope none of you are eating at your computer) 250W <---strikethru
  21. If I accidentally bump a MH with my hand or wrist ONE MORE TIME.. F$%#*$%*$#%(%!!!! In one nanosecond, it's charred like an Applebee's hamburger. (flame) Between the burns, clown bites, and phosphate crashes, I feel like I must be some weird reef masochist. It'd be a lot cheaper if I'd just get up and flog myself every morning instead of having this tank... So why do I still love it so much?? (nutty) (Ordered a couple frags which should be here tomorrow - YAY!) (clap)
  22. I like the movement of softies and LPS too! Nice tank. =) I DO like the plates of SPS, though, esp when they get quite large and can form a horizontal shelf, like capricornis. I think it adds something to the visual line of the tank =)
  23. Have you seen this site? Amazing.. http://www.digital-reefs.com/
  24. I went by Best Buy (@ Mill Plain & 134th in Vancouver) to look for something on WEDNESDAY 10am, and there were 20-25 people camped outside the store. In the rain. With camping gear that included little pop-tents and propane heaters. (nutty) I asked what it was about; I couldn't believe it was for a video game that was going on sell on FRIDAY. A game station??? Can any of you think of anything you'd want badly enough to buy that you'd camp out on concrete in front of a Best Buy for 3+ days in freezing rain? 'Cause I sure can't, and I've been really trying to come up with something... (scratch)

    Free horses

LOL @ cajones and bravery I've wanted horses since I was a kid, but it never worked out. Right now we rent because we move so much (husby's a techie type)...not the right lifestyle for horse ownership unfortunately If we had any land at all, I'd take a couple of the less-attractive adults.. Those are the hardest to get adopted.
