It's been three days. I just took this pic. Zoos are doing well. I wonder how long this will continue...

How did the urchin even get these zoos off the rock? (scratch) They've been open all day while the urchin's moved all over the tank...

I've always loved octopii.. They seem so incredibly intelligent for something so biologically rudimentary. <3 IMO I don't think they belong in tanks; they're too smart and it usually ends in disaster, from what I've read... I certainly hope so (slim odds, that is)... I mean, nothing wrong with being a man, but my husband might have some issues (laugh) Well, because my fav new zoos are about to be shrimpsnack, I took a nice photo of them... Notice the (censored) preying on it. I hope it gets indigestion...

BTW, the likelihood that I could catch even half these buggers to relocate them to the sump is equivalent to the likelihood that I'll wake up a man tomorrow morning. :eek:

It started with five tiny peppermints. Now I have an explosion going on. There's ALWAYS a pregnant female or two loaded with eggs, which was really cute the first few times. Then I started thinking "wow, this seems like it's always happening" (scratch) Now I'm starting to see little gyrating pink shrimp in every nook and cranny.. which is fine. Even cute. Except that they've STARTED EATING MY ZOO!!! (cussing) I'm pretty sure they're peppermints and not camelbacks. They just started in on this particular zoo right after it arrived UPS a couple wks ago. A few polyps in the back didn't make it, so they ate those (which you'd expect).. but now they've started gnawing the LIVE ONES and have killed everything in the back. They've got a taste for blood!! (scary) I can't find any evidence anywhere the peppermints might each zoos. I found a site that said they're suspected of gnawing LPS on occasion. I took these pics like 5 min ago.. There are 2 of them going at it right now (and one waiting in the background). :mad:

I was at Kit's Camera on Jantzen Bch today getting a small digi camera. They have a deal now that you can get buy this $100 photo printer made by HP, and they give you two $50 mail-in rebates.. so basically the printer's FREE after rebate. (It takes 6-8 wks to get the rebate ck.) They make it really easy, too. They print extra receipts for you and give you the super-easy rebate slip that only needs your name, address, phone. I already filled mine out to drop in the mail tomorrow. Just thought I'd give you a head's up that if you were gonna get a camera at any time between now and Jan 1, you'd wanna do it at Kit's so you can get the free photo printer. I have a med maroon-and-gold female whose mate died of ich several months ago. I put a small maroon-and-white misbar in this week, and to my amazement, he's been shimmying her. She's even letting him within 3" of her BTA now. Is it normal for whites and yellows to hook up..? Just curious. What do you get when you mix white misbars with reg yellows?

I have a Ca reactor, but it's not working. The pump is blown, but that may not be the only issue. Not sure. Trying to get LFS guy to come get it working but I've been unable to get a response and it's been several wks.

Ringwurm - I'm not listening to that!! ::::going to happy place, happy place:::: I planned on doing a 8-10% WC before I left. I keep a little reef carbon going all the time. I'm gonna set up my AquaController to top off with a gallon or two every day. So much water evaporates with all my lighting and the surface agitation... My main concern is the evaporation going too far and the skimmer pump not getting water into the skimmer, then the organics exploding.. An AquaController just doesn't replace a person that knows what they're doing, ya know? Thanks Darren and Austin!! That's really nice of you I think we'll see if someone can come by Wednesday when my friend is here, to do a mid-week overall check-up, just to make sure everything's kosher.. I have to email and find out if the LFS will do that..

We're going to Disneyland/S CA/San Diego with the kids soon for a wk, and I'm having to leave my tank in the hands of a friend that's very nice but doesn't know anything about marine tanks. (scary) I have the AquaController, which I'm gonna set up to top off every day, but still, if anything unusual happens, it'll be apocolyptic. What do you guys normally do when you have to go away?

Thanks When it comes to being new at this hobby, the devil's in the details. There are just so many little things you don't think about. I'd heard of quickly FW dipping fish, but not corals. I got up this morning still wondering what other awful infiltrators might be in there...

It's all over. (clap) Thanks for the boiling water suggestion. I had to use a hammer and gently break open the bottom of the hole, where I found his boiled little cadaver. I'm now concerned that there might be more. I tried to keep all the water off the polyps, but who knows.
