  1. lol, Nyles beat me to it. when I was shipping I would tape the heat pack to the inside of the top styro piece. I worried about too much heat transfer from the bottom up. I also notice when i got boxes from importers they did the same. on a side note...can you imagine the amount of plastic and styro our industry is responsible for contributing towards landfills? ugh.
  2. try GI Joes. I think you can get them for 75-cents each.
  3. wow, nice 8-way plumbing. I love flex-pvc. Are you happy with how it has worked out in terms of creating random water movement?
  4. darn, it was a good picture of a mesh mod...can;t remember where i found it now. crikey.

    Hello!

I'd recommend a high-grade test for phosphates instead of an aquarium-grade you might want to go with lab-grade, but they are significantly more expensive. http://www.lamotte.com/
  6. good to know, because i would have gone with the cheaper stuff, lol. what's the approx price diff between them?
  7. I think siphon overflows give me nightmares. But not exactly sure what the problem is...except your water level may be a bit high for surface skimming?(scratch)
  8. a managed to get a picture of one: yeah...slow day.
  9. 3lbs? Yo quiero skimmate? Introducing a small mammal into your skimmer helps to cut down on turbulence i hear. this one seems to be experimenting with something larger. link
  10. ok, OT, but [language filter] is this? http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/8543imaggbve0.jpg
  11. lots of pics in this gallery of all components of that nice one. looks like he even DIY his venturis? link
  12. I believe 1/8 is fine, but don't take my word for it. I think it all depends on how bombproof you want it to be, but people are making skimmers with 5-gallon water jugs...which is a fabulous idea i think. But I know they have very thin walls.
  13. ok, what did i do...:P Just let me know and I'll correct it.
  14. another here: http://www.atiaquaristik.com/content/images/47499a54c43adeeb59368125f7c1f794.jpg
  15. window screen, interesting idea. What is that made out of?
  16. here's pic. I had another one bookmarked witha different picture of a different impeller with finer mesh, but can;t seem to find it now. I'd insert the image but RC will block it anyhow. http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/8543DSC00320.JPG
  17. went live today. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/
  18. wow, some really nice work by local folks too. I'm sure everyone would love to hear more specifics about how you assembled, etc. Thanks for sharing.
  19. yeah that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Waytogo Andy!(clap)
  20. wondering why you guys sre not going with the ones that are $10 for 1000? what's more desirable about the "castle" type of tees that justifies 5x the cost?
  21. I'd like to donate some stuff too, if I can. Send me an email with your needs and I'll see what I can dig up. admin@reeflabs.com
  22. Have you guys seen some of the amazing DIY skimmers being built? These things look better than even the Deltecs. I'm all about saving money in a hobby where most of the equipment is technologically simple and way overpriced. Check these DIY skimmers out! Really makes me wish I had a workshop, lol. I've compiled a collection of the best in a post: link
  23. ditto on what the above stated, and just keep in mind there is a big difference between flow - which refers to the volume of water - and velocity - which refers to th speed at which something is moving. When you decrease the dia. of the effluent tube, you effectively restrict the flow, and increase the velocity. and yeah also lose the sqwd...
