  1. I need to pull some of my cheato today, if you need some let me know. I will say that mine has all kinds of life that includes bristle worms and limpets. I don't believe I have anything bad but a quick dip will make sure if you're worried. Let me know, I will probably toss it this evening if nobody wants any. I'm in the Orchards area of Vancouver.

    Thanks!

  2. I am in need of more spread from my light source because of coral growth and rock placement, and while I would love to purchase a new fixture, that's not in the budget right now. I'm wondering if anyone here has something they might like to trade for my Kessil! I would love to have an ATI T5 fixture but will consider any trades that might fit my needs, I just don't have any money to add right now. So, anyone have a light laying around?

Mine is a Kessil 360WE with gooseneck, 90 degree adapter, and VDM module for the Apex. I can provide pics if needed or you are more than welcome to come check the light out in person. Also, if you know anyone local who might be interested, send them my way!

    Thanks!

  3. I have 50g cube as frag tank/QT for fishes might be triggerfish food. One ReeFi LED (150w max) will cover it very well. I only ramp up to 50% power mid day for sps and LPS. For softies, I would recommend even lower to start and let your corals adjust slowly. 5 channels individually controllable, 1024 dimming steps, with built-in wifi.

Very nice! Would I have the same issues with this light though? It seems very similar to the Kessil.

  4. As my coral continue to grow, shadowing is becoming an issue with my Kessil being that it's a single source light. My tank is a 50 cube 24x24x20 so pretty shallow, plus all my coral are softies or anemone's.

I'm looking for suggestions on options to give me more spread and coverage. Im considering T5, those would definitely cover better but not sure I want invest a ton of money in a fixture for my softies! Lol Maybe suggestions on led fixtures you all have had success with. Something other than the few common brands.

Anyone have something laying around? Thanks!

  5. Do you mean it was growing new heads? I've heard wall euphyllia are pretty sensitive compared to their branching cousins and once they start going, there isn't much that can be done to save them. Sorry to hear about the piece, that's a bummer. I'd definitely give it a chance to come back. Coral can be really surprising in it's ability to save itself.

The way it was described to me when I lost my Orange wall, was that they grow from a single head so once a problem starts, you can't just remove the problem head or wack off the bad part. Where with branching, you just remove the bad head or let it die.

  7. Yeah unless your tank is large, you might have troubles even with a large population. You really need to have a Fuge or very established rock so the pods can continue to multiply even while being consumed all day every day. Mandarins are machines, they constantly eat and have very small mouths.

That said, look on line, you will find plenty of success stories as well as failures. They can be trained but it takes time from what I've seen and most small tanks can't sustain them while that process happens. Good luck, they are rad fish.

You will also find that just about every fish we keep eats pods, some more than others but all do.

  8. I had the same issue with my radion, if you look on line there are quite a few people who also have. Ecotech never was able to give me an answer and once it corrected itself, it didn't do it again.

My lights were coming on at like 4 am ????

  9. I would be scared to put them in my tank when they are sitting in algae and could leach something I might not even be able to test for. I just don't want to start out my tank with unknowns although I am sure they would be fine.

Normally I wouldn't either, but I have never added any chemicals or fertilizers to the container and have always flushed the water completely or close to it when I top it off. The container being as full as it is, it looks worse than it is. The container was also new when they were added and most of the gravel was as well. My tank is pretty well established so I feel confident it will be fine. I will be adding a carbon reactor to the tank this week also, just in case.
