  1. So i know there are other people out there that have a seaclo(w)ne skimmer that think it is the biggest piece of crap ever thought up. Well I modded mine today and now it is a skimming machine. I'm only using it on a 16g nano, so.... i'm not sure how big of a tank it would work for but here's what i did.

Take out the impeller on the MJ1200 and do the bio ball mod. (cut it so it fits around the impeller instructions on Reefcentral.com )

While the impeller is out, drill 1 small hole in each blade.

Drill a small hole in the top of the cup lid. Just big enough for a piece of rigid tubing. Put an airstone on the tubing and run a pump to it.

I'm telling you this thing is skimming harder than the berlin I had on my 45g. I'm impressed.

  2. Do urchins really eat corals? I thought the just picked them up to disguise themselves, kinda like a decorator crab.... thats what I was told at least. I had a tuxedo in my 45g and he did a good job of cleaning algae, picking up zoas and carrying them around the tank... stuff like that.. :)

  3. Its the long crappy, my buddy didn't do water changes, didn't give a crap about the tank cuz it only had rock and 2 clowns in it type. Im gonna try the toothbrush method in the morning... on another note, which of the LFS would be open on Monday? I'm comming to Vancouver to get fireworks, and hopefully stopping by the reef shop.

  4. (flame) So as most of you know I got a 16g nano from a friend of mine. Well with it i inhereted hair algae problem with it. Thinking "well i've been reefing for a while i can lick it" I took it on. Well its been a month now and no slowing the algae. So here it is... PLEASE HELP ME. any ideas that I haven't tried. Here's what I've done so far.

Increased flow by adding a powerhead. The tank turns over now about 20x per hour with the filter, skimmer and powerhead combined.

Cut the halide light back to like 2 hrs a day, and only have been running actinic flourescent lamps (2 x 12" VHO)

Running Kents phosphate remover, replacing every 2 days.

Running activated carbon replacing every 2 days.

added a lawnmower blenny, 45 blue leg hermit crabs, and 2 turbo snails. already had 4 astrea snails.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO!!! I'm getting frustrated, and those who know me know its hard to get me frustrated. HELP!!! (flame)

    Thank SBK.

  5. The guy I get alot of hardware from down here (also the local PFO dealer) is going to be running one of these already over his tank in about a week I guess. They are BAD A$$. The color is so changable, no more timers, you can simulate seasonal changes.. EVERYTHING. plus, you will pay for the unit in 1 year of power savings they are saying.

  6. Hi guys. I'm back, just set up my reef down here in Bend again. A small 16g bow, and I'm building a 72g drilled bow right now as well. The 16 was set up at a friends house, and I bought it in his move. Luckey me. Well drop me a line if some of you remember who I am, or if there are any reefers down here in bend.
