  1. Holly... if you have an ATO and a calcium reactor, you really don't have anything to worry about. Just make sure your friend knows which foods to feed, how much, and which days. And I would stress VERY much the fact that they are to do NOTHING unless they call you. I had a friend that topped off my tank with saltwater while I was gone for a week, and when I came home my SG was off the charts. Lost a few things... but stuff gets back to normal.
  2. I like the fact that even if you don't look at your tank for a few days, it still changes and evolves, so that when you do have time to sit and enjoy it for a while, you notice new things EVERY time. Plus, I don't think there are very many things as beautiful as the way clown fish swim.
  3. He's just being moddest... his freakin tank is beautiful, and I don't think there is one brown coral in there anymore. Why you wanna save all the nice frags Fly?
  4. Ebay has a 6 stage ro/di for like 65 bucks
  5. Just wanted to thank Ryan for the awesome frag. Its cool when an LFS has something rare in his show tank, and is willing to bust you off a frag, even though he only has 5 inches of it, and can't seem to keep it in his tank long enough to grow out. Now I can't tell you guys exactly what kind of frag it was, cuz then he'd NEVER be able to keep it. I have seen frags of this coral go for 40 to 50 bucks, and its nice to have an LFS, (well not so LocalFS to me ) that has pieces like this that will give you 2 inch frags for 10 dollars. Thanks again Ryan. Maybe next time I'm over, i'll have a little extra cash and I'll be able to get some of the beautiful Echinopora that Joel had. Nice Pink one, and the alien eye... OMG SBK
  6. Thats what I mean. I didn't restrict the flow, It runs in 1/2" up over the back, then as it enters the tank, it upsizes to 3/4" don't ask me why it works.
  7. So I have been fighting flow issues in my 16g for a couple of weeks. You'd think with a little under 700 gph flowing through there I wouldn't have any issues, but I was. So I went to the plumbing store here, and stood there like an idiot with a gleam in my eye for about a half hour. This was last night about 8:30 after work, so i'm sure you know I just wanted it over with. Well after sitting there and deciding I didn't want to restrict my flow, just make it flow harder around the tank, I decided to try this. My return lines come up from my sump, through a SCWD ( T ) and then up and over the back with 3 90s. Well, I took a 3/4" FPT to Slip fitting and screwed it on the 1/2 FPT x MPT 90. Now I don't know why this works, but it blows the water around twice as hard now. maybe its the going from lots of pressure to moving more volume really fast that makes it work, but I'm getting flow more like Fishlips gets outta his Tunze Streams now. I'll try to get a picture up after work, but for now I gotta go... i'm gonna be late (whistle) 'naw... I've been here all morning boss.. " (whistle)
  8. LMFAO (laugh) (laugh) (laugh) (clap) glad someone finally said it.
  9. So I woke up to a first for me this morning. My RBTA has split into 2, and now both my clowns have aplace to sleep. Kinda funny (clap)
  10. I like the look of it as is... easy on the eyes.
  11. My favorite is my superman acan lord, and my girlfriends favorite is My gold teardrop T.max, or her stupid star polyps. Seems like everyone that comes over here really notices the fish first. And the RBTA. Then they all notice how my large clown won't let my smaller one anywhere near it. Yeah, i kinda think its funny too.
  12. I look at it like this, if there where as many horrticulturists in the world, back in the 60s 70s and 80s, when we literally RAPED the amazon rain forest, collecting and trading, cloning (fragging), and selling the millions of plant species that we erradicated, maybe we would have cures for AIDS, cancer, Ahlsheimers (i know i spelled that wrong) and many other diseases, and maladies that effect us everyday. Maybe as a hobby, us collecting, and trading corals, means that we will not exterminate these species. Thats my hope.
  13. Use water from the old tank, no time needed. Maybe wait a day or 2 just to be sure, but when I moved tanks to I just used water from the old, just like doing a 50% water change.
  14. I have a bit of a comparison.. I used corallife salt in my tank for 4 or 5 months, started wmy tank with it. Then in the last 2 months, ive switched to a 50/50 mix of IO and Oceanic after Steve suggested it. The growth since then is outrages. The only thing its a little low on is mag ~ 1100... but its easily dosed. I don't know what the big difference in the mixes is, but I know i'll just be doing the 50/50 from now on.
  15. I have a 18w 50/50 cf over it that came with my light. SHould I look for another blub?
  16. So it seems that for the past month my chaeto has been shrinking instead of growing. Now a bit of nuicance algae has popped up in my tank, so somthing is wrong in my refugium. The only thing I can think of is that maybe something is eating it. The only animals in my fuge are a couple of astreas, 2 hermits, 3 nassarius snails to keep the DSB stirred, and a pencil urchin that got to big for my tank. Would the urchin possibly be eating it? (flame) That would be the last straw for him..... I stopped dosing iron for the time being, but any other help would be appreciated.
  17. ill be by tommorow to see it in person.
  18. I know those spagetti worms are harmless. I had them at plague populations in my 45g reef, and they didn't hurt anything. They actually help your water quality. But if you want to get rid of some of them like I did because of the numbers, a 6line wrasse will eat them for sure. One took my population of spagetti worms down by about half in a couple weeks.
  19. think im just going to go with the recirc octopus, and then do the gate valve mod, i think it should work out pretty good.
