  1. ITS ALIVE!!!!!! well, i got antsy today, and built myself a sump. I did it outta a 20g long, and built like a 14" area for a refugium. (clap) Nothing like doubling your water capacity :D Anyhow, what do you guys run in your fuges? im thinking like 4-6" of miracle mud, with like 5lbs of live rock, caulerpa and maybe a mangrove or 2. what do ya guys think?

    Thoughts??

I'm going to sleep like (scary) tonight. i'm pretty worried about leaks, but none so far. (rock2) now if the skimmer would only get here.

  2. so if i have light brown out, on MOST of my corals, then your saying that I'm underfeeding my tank? I'm confused because I bought 3 frags of SPS from shawn about a week ago. A purple rim green cap, an a. pulchra, and a bleached out blue mille. The blue mille is turning kinda a darker brown, but I was figuring that to be the zooanthelae comming back. The pulchra i noticed is starting to brown this morning, and the Cap, which didn't look good when I bought it but it was the only piece he had, is starting to turn more green, but the rim is more brown than purple.

    Thoughts???

  3. I know we just had the what do you test for, but I'm wondering HOW everyone tests... if you use a chem test, what brand do you use?

I use mostly red sea test kits because thats all that is available down here in Bend.... kinda sucks.

  4. Theres a guy here in bend that runs a maintanance/dry goods company and I got it from him. It cost me 130 bucks and it will be here tommorow. I'm really excited to see the difference between that and my seaclown thats currently running

  5. i decided to build a sump/fuge and I ordered to Tunze nano. Thanks for the input guys.. It came really highly recommended on RC, plus a friend of mine has one and I saw it today... talk about kickin chicken.... really good dry foam.

  6. Thanks reefgeek. Thats awesome. I think i'm going to go the same route. I think i'll wait to drill the return holes until I see how the hole for the intake goes. I'm really worried about drilling this, but I really want it done and none of the glass shops down here will do it.

  7. SQWD or squid will reduce your flow by 40 to 50%, or so I've been told. I own one brand new in the box, I never used it due to that fact.

Have you looked at the hydro-flo device? Or an oceansmotion 4-way?

The oceansmotion is a cool product, over $300 kinda hurts the pocket book as i still need a pump for CL, return pump, skimmer, calcium reactor..... well you get the idea.

Has anyone had any experience with the hydro-flo? Does it restrict flow rates like the SCWD? Can you hook it to a bulkhead? it says flow rates of up to 350 or something... i guess if I split that 1200gph Gen-x into 3 with a 4' head height i'd probably be in that 300gph per outlet range right???

errrrrr I hate plumbing things it always makes me feel like DOH!

  8. I'm going to be running the return from my sump through the sea swirl, and drill the back for a closed loop. the bottom of the tank is already drilled for 1 return, and 1 drain, i'm just going to run a T off the sump return pump, on one side just a 45 elbow, throtled down, and on the other the sea swirl, that should give me pretty random flow right? then I was going to run 3 holes across the middle of the tank, its 4' long so i'm thinking like 11 or 12" apart, and the middle on just have constant flow, the other two plumbed together with a sqwd.

    thoughts?

  9. Well i finally did the smart thing and made a plan before setting up a tank. I bought a 72g bow front, pre drilled with corner overflow. I'm going to be putting ONLY sps and zoas in this tank, and I'd like to have tons of flow, so my plan is to run a seaswirl in the opposite corner from the overflow and drill for a closed loop. The only problem is that I've never done a closed loop and I'd like some direction.

    Thanks SBK
