Nothing yet!
I have to find out if Sean can get me one or the other.
It's hard to decide, as I like the looks of both, and the Fridmani is available as tank bred.
I'm taking it slow!
-
Mine likes the red mushroom rock, but has also hosted in an anthelia (and then proceeded to rip it apart ), a finger leather and the candy cane.
The mushrooms are definitely her favorite, though.
-
I'm still working on my fishlist and am trying to decide between these two as one of the definites.
The info on all the sources I've checked varies quite a bit between peaceful, semi-aggressive, aggressive, and I was hoping to get some opinions of people who've had one or the other in their tanks.
Other future inhabitants for the tank will be a goby, a blenny (specifics to be determinded, the goby maybe a Rainfordi or a Hector's and the Blenny possibly a Midas or a Red Sea Mimic) and a small school of either chromis or Filamented Flasher Wrasses.

I wish I had the lighting to help you out, but my pc lighting isn't going to do your corals any good, I assume?
My 40G is still empty of any fish and only has a few zoas, a leather, candy cane and hammer frag in it.

I looked at the yellow headed jawfish and they sounded really cool, but it sounded like they needed a really deep sandbed, with rubble, not just fine sand.
I only have about 1 1/2 inches, so I had to scratch it off my list.
Do you have one? And how much sand is in your tank?
-
I haven't really looked at the Angels, yet.
Have to read up on them.
Aqua Serene has two Rainford's gobies, but they aren't eating.
They've been there since May 2nd, and look okay, but they didn't go for any of the food the guy threw in. Maybe too many people staring at them, but I heard the Rainford's are hard to get to eat and I don't want to watch one slowly starve to death in my tank. I may check up on them again in a few days.
And I guess I'm attached to the idea of a small group of the same fish.
I wish my tank were bigger, or anthias smaller!
-
I've been making list after list and reading up on my choices, but I'm more confused than ever.
Every single fish I read about has some shortcoming (jumper, aggressive, too timid, hard to feed etc.).
Help me out with your experiences and tell me what *you* would put into a 40G with 20L sump!
I have a shallow SB (1 1/2-2"), about 60lbs of LR, with lots of swimming room.
My original plan was to get 4 or 5 chromis, maybe a pseudochromis fridmani (last fish), a Hector's or Rainford's gobi, and Red Sea Mimic blenny or Harptail Blenny.
Have also condidered filamented Flasher Wrasses (1 male with a few females) instead of the Chromis, but price and availability are a consideration.

so i gess what im saying is 50gal or larger u should be fine with six but as we all know fish that are normaly docile can turn murder in small systems but of all the damsels these are the only ones i trust not to go jehaad on my other fish and i get the schooling with out spending the big bucks for anthias and frankly i think there pretty(fish)
I have 50G of water (maybe a bit more with the sump, but the tank itself is only a 40G (36x15x16).
If I do decide to try the chromis, should I only get 4 or 5?
Or is that too many?
I read about them some more yesterday and some people think they need to be fed several times a day (like anthias) to keep them from turning on each other.
How often do you feed your's?
-
What about Lyretail Anthias?
I read they like to hang out in groups, but can't find much info on them on the net in general.
-
The cardinals mostly just hover in one place as far as I've seen and I was hoping for a more active fish or two.
How active are the firefish (apart from wanting to jump out of the tank)?
-
Price was a bit of a consideration, too!
And activity level.
So, royal grammas school and don't turn on each other?
-
Thanks!
It actually sounds like they prefer to be single. :(
Some people's seem to be okay in small groups, but I'll have to rethink.
-
I would advise against chromis...There is a pretty good thread that chromis actual prefer pairs...
.
Can you tell me where I can find that thread?
So, Chromis are NOT schooling fish at all?
Maybe I should just get two then?
-
I'm adding a small school of chromis to my 40G (was thinking 4 or 6), but I keep seeing people recommend to get an uneven number.
Is there a good reason or is it just a myth that gets passed on.
What are your experiences?(scratch)
-
I use an acrylic safe mag-float. Works perfect when there is no sand in the pad. Otherwise, when people come over and wanna play with it, I get scared.
Thanks!
Does the mag-float have replaceable pads?

Edit: For some reason the word SCRATCH gets turned into the *Scratch* icon each time the word is used! laugh
Today my rainbow lifegard scratch removal kit arrived, and after the initial shock of seeing the horrible scratches it created before it got better, I am quite pleased with the result.
I had tons of small scratches on the inside (not just on the bottom near the sand) and I was hoping to get some ideas how to avoid them in the future.
The acrylic safe sponge I've been using is obviously not as safe as they advertise!
Are there any recommended magnet cleaners that do not create scratches as long as you stay away from the sand?
And I read that some people put some micromesh on their inside magnet to constantly buff out small scratches. I wonder if this is safe for the inhabitants. It sounds like a great idea!
And in a few days, my aqua lifter pumps for an auto top-off should arrive. While researching, I came across a lot of mention that RO/DI top-off water should be aerated and buffered, while other places said this is not necessary.
What's everybody's experience here?
-
Did you say you were working on a DIY seaswirl, too?
-
Hey, this looks great!
How much $$ are in that little mod?
-
Are we talking SPS here, or LPS/Softies, too?
-
We moved a tank just a couple of miles in town two years ago, and ended up having a major outbreak of first slime, then hair algae, and the sand never looked as bright and clean as it did before.
I'd start new to avoid problems right from the start and just keep a little of the sand as a starter culture.
I did have good luck rinsing the sand for my 40G i got from Cormac *really* well with freshwater and using it with some LS added from my 20G.

My fish recovered well from ich in a quarantine tank at 84F, with salinity dropped slowly to 1.009.
Are your fish still eating?

I hope it makes it!

The link is bad.
Ah, okay!
How about leather corals. There are lots in that catagory as well that you could do.I have a couple of finger leathers in the 20H that want to take over the tank (anyone need some? ).
But I've seen picture of leathers with green polyps, which I'd love to get some time!
Midas Blenny?
in General Discussion
Posted
Still working on my fish list! One of these days I will actually get the first one!
Anyone here have a Midas Blenny and how is he treating the tankmates?
I've read they can bother smaller gobies.
Would a Midas Blenny be okay in a 40G with a Rainford's or Hector's gobi, and a Blackcap?
Or should I look at a different Blenny?
And which fish should go in first? The gobi?
