  1. I hate the bullets. They require a big power hog often noisy pump, often cause micro bubbles, run too much flow through the sump (usually unless its a huge sump) etc.

anyway, I dont know enough about the AquaC to recommend one or the other.

I would probably feel that way if I didn't have mine in a 100 gallon horse trough in my garage.

  2. No I still have not done anything yet to fix this. I use an auto top off that is gravity fed and always hooked up.

Will this work for dripping kalk? If I add a pump to mix it once a day for 60sec. But what keeps this sediment from going in the tank when it's mixing?

    Thanks, Stephan

I have used a 5 gallon bucket with a stand pipe in the bottom connected to a float valve to dose Kalkwasser in the past. I basically dumped a pound of pickling lime in the bucket and then used another float valve to keep the bucket filled with RO/DI water. I then stirred it up with a plastic spoon every night. Seemed to work fine. I have not switched to a DIY calcium reactor which take alot less attention.

  3. From your experience' date=' you should know to just buy the right thing in the first place, or it will end up in the classifieds :). I'd go bigger for future overstocking use.[/quote']

I agree, you never know what you are going to need in the future. I ran a PM Bullet 3 on an 18 gallon nano for awhile, until we got our 180 set up.

  4. Well, I've finally taken the time to finish this project. Here are a couple pictures of the finished product.

View of the modified maxijet that I'm using as a feed pump. I pondered getting a Litermeter, but couldn't convince myself to spend the money.

Closeup of the bubble counter. I'm actually using a ph-controller to control the PH in the first chamber, but it's nice to have visual confirmation that things are dong the correct thing.

  5. Oh' date=' awesome Bob! I did a normal google search and didn't come up with much. I will use the library database at school to look up those articles. Reefgeek I will look into the other toxins too. I think I will discuss multiple toxins even though there seems to be plenty on palytoxin alone.[/quote']

I've used Web of Science and INSPEC databases a lot in the past. The OSU library seems to have both. You can also try Google Scholar:

  6. Hey guys, I have to write a 10 page paper using peer-reviewed journal articles on any topic in toxicology. Do you think there has been enough research out there to do it on palytoxin? Any suggestions on articles I can look up?

If not, I will probably do one on tetrodoxin in puffer fish.

I just did a quick literature search on palyotoxin and found something like 300 references. I think that should be more than plenty for your report. I didn't look through and see how many are related to home aquariums though. I've attached the references that I found in a zipped html file.

  7. yeah all good points guys, although I'd think an lfs who can test water and interview customers might have an advantage there.

    $17 ocellaris

    $25 small copperbands

    $39 blue tang

    $44 flame angel

I'm not seeing a big price difference, a small one perhaps... and honestly I'm not taking shipping/boxing charges into account and I haven't bought anything in ages either so maybe I'm off. If/when I ever purchase a fish again though, it will be locally most likely. Lots of people swear by mail order but I agree still like a shop where I can poke things with sticks.

After poking with the sticks are you still going to expect a 14 day guarantee?? To me this is just an advertising gimmick by liveaquaria. This is like the rebates that many companies us to entice us into buying things. They know that only a small percentage of customers will jump through the hoops to turn in rebate forms or dead fish. This is just another expense for a very profitable business. Our LFS are in a completely different situation. I don't see any of them getting rich. I am willing to pay a higher price or take the risk that the fish I buy might die in a week or two when I shop at a LFS. I have received hundreds of dollars worth of free advice and information from local owners. If we don't support them, they may not be their to support in the future.

  8. Hey' date=' I have some new info on this too. I got an order from IPSF for the start of the school year and they told me about a cool program they have got going on the East coast. They are piloting a bare bones ten gallon system designed for teachers with a curriculum that goes with the tank. They have a design set up that is cheap. The guy I spoke with said the design is invert only. Simple lights means softies and mushroom corals. He sounded interested in our desire to start a program. Maybe an officer in the club could contact them to get the ball rolling. We could even get one ordered for an interested teacher and then copy it for other teachers once we had it figured out.[/quote']

Do you have a name, email address, phone number etc. I would be glad to contact them and see what I can find out.
