  1. Ya, I cannot beat the price, however, my wife can beat me for buying a 600 dollar camera(will take advise on how to convince wife too :).

I think the D40 with the two VR lenses that auto focus, unlike older lenses with the D40, will be perfect for me. I am a novice photographer and I will not be using/needing most of the advanced features that a professional photographer would use. It's all just a matter of time now.

Here's an article explaining why your wife wants you to buy a new camera.

  2. I was supposed to be there' date=' I had my White elephant gift wrapped up and everything ready to go ... Sold my 2 tanks instead, that took all day (nutty). So was it well attended? How many people?[/quote']

Sorry, you didn't make it, but glad you got your tanks sold. We had about 35 attendees.

  3. I actually think it was cured. The pH and had been pretty stable for about 5-6 months. If I had to guess, we were getting leaching of something, maybe phosphates, maybe some kind of metals.

  4. I'm running a PM Bullet 3 with a genx 40. Can't think of any reason why I would change to another setup. My only recommendation would be to change out the gate valve to a standpipe for level control and to make sure you have a waste collection bottle. This skimmer/pump combination can pump many gallons of water on to your floor if not set up optimally.

  5. Hmmm, what ingredients did you use?

I hope to get 2 of my rocks into the tank by the end of this month. I'll let you know how it goes.

We used Type II portland cement and crushed oyster shells. We cured is in buckets for about a month and a half until the PH dropped to about 8.0 and then transfered it to saltwater in our new tank last spring. After that we didn't have any PH issues, but for about the next 2-3 months the measured Ca levels were greater than 700ppm. Since about last May the Ca and PH have been maintained at reasonable levels. Since that time we have had on and off algae issues and it has been impossible to keep any SPS's alive. The LPS's that we have had either stagnated or slowly died. During this time ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, Cu have all been at unmeasurable levels using Salifert test kits. We have also had some live rock in the tank, that was supposed to seed the DIY rock. What I noticed was that there was much more algae growth on the DIY rock, essentially no coralline growth.

About two weeks ago we finally gave up on the DIY rock and removed it all along with the 2" sand bed that we had. We noticed an almost immediate improvement in all of the corals in the tank. The Hammerhead that was barely extended now extends 2-3", our blastmosa has sprouted a new head etc.

I'm not sure what was going on, but things are much happier without the DIY rock.

  6. Nope Nice data to have.... I can agree with the car related deaths, I lost two people very close to me driving right in front of me. However the topic is more "What if more (how many??) citizens carried handguns."

Im just imagining lots of people 50% or 25% of the masses running around with guns.... I think that there would be a lot more accidents involving guns. There is too many variables that go sky high. It takes a responsible person to handle a gun, those people I don't worry about, its the others I do. That goes for cars and other things as well.

I can imagine that the world would be a much safer place if we had the majority of people running around bearing arms, just as our forefather intended. Kentucky long rifles were hard to conceal and slow to reload.

  7. You mean sports cars that are allowed on the regular roads, or race cars relegated to racing tracks?

IMO, by all means, get rid of them on the roads! Considering the way the environment is going, they are ridiculous anyhow.

Get rid of things like Hummers, too! :D

If people want to kill themselves on race tracks, and other people pay to watch them, that's fine by me as long as the general public who isn't into that kind of stuff is not endangered.

I mean't sports cars on public highways.
