superjohnny
I'm in the process of making a stand for my tanks. I just finished with a layer of primer and now want to start the real painting. Any recommendations on the best types of paint? Do I need some sort of marine paint or? This will, of course, get wet periodically if not frequently so it needs to be something that will stand up to saltwater and last. Michael7979
What kinda primer did you use? Oil or latex. I would have used oil-based primer and that would help save the wood......then I'd use a nice satin to top it off. It'll give you a little shine and should help repel water. superjohnny
I used a 1-2-3 Primer Sealer that is water based. I try to stay away from the mess of oil based paint... it's just too much for me to deal with. Thanks for your input Michael
Reefin'
i agree with mike....i would use oil based....i used Miller Gloss Spar Finish.(black)...for indoor/outdoor/marine finishes.. its a bullet proof finish nice and shiny...HTH
Theron
I just used water based primer and interior paint for my stand. Last, I put a few coats of Minwax Polycrylic. It works really well. http://www.minwax.com/products/protective/polycrylic.cfm My stand is white and I used a spar product before, but it ended up turning yellow.
