Thanks Guys, I am really trying to find something I do not have to modify much. I want the tank easy to access so, a 70 or 90 gallon is not going to work. But Kemist, that is an interesting idea. Moovin, thanks for the link. That guy has a lot of different size tanks for sale. He even has a few exactly what I am looking for, 1 inch and rimless with free shipping. A little more than I want to spend right now though.

Still looking for a shallow tank. I would like to find something somewhat inexpensive. I am also concidering a tank height of 12 inches. So if someone has a frag tank available with a footprint about 48x24 let me know. Needs to be in fairly good shape because I want to use it as a display tank. Theron

I am thinking about setting up a shallow reef tank. Previously I had a 300 gallon cube that was 30 inches high. While I loved the height, this tank I want to keep the water volume down, so a shallow tank would make sense. Right now I think my ideal dimensions would be 48x24x16. I would like atleast 24 inches width (front to back) and the height could be somewhere between 14 inches to 18 inches. Before I go and order a custom tank, I just wanted to see if anyone has something around with these dimensions they want to get rid of. It would be nice to start with a used tank to see how I like the height before spending the money on something custom. Theron

I am sorry to hear about you job loss. I went through this almost a year ago. One thing you might want to look into is the COBRA Assistance, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. If you are eligible for COBRA, you only have to pay 35% of the premiums. Still can be a lot, but makes it much more reasonable.

Ok, have a few more items for sale. PM me if interested. 1) Pinpoint PH Monitor with AC adaptor. No probe. $25 2) PFO Socket Mounting Kit and 12" Optimal Reflector. $40 for both. Used for 250 or 400 watt mogul base. I have two of these. I cut off the PFO connector and added a quick disconnect connector to them. I still have the PFO connectors if you want to use these on a PFO ballast. 3) Spider Light Reflector with Mogul Socket. $20 This is brand new, never used. 4) Reeflo Barracuda pump. $200 This was used for a closed loop on a large display tank. Works great. I purchased it from another person as new. I used it for a year. That is PVC glue that dripped on the side of the pump. 5) MD 55 pump. $30 This is an Iwaki clone. Looks like an Iwaki MD55. The fan shroud is cracked at one of the screws. It was used for about a year to power a skimmer. 6) PFO Dual 400 Watt Ballast. $125 Works great. Just came off a large display tank. Not sure on the age. I bought it used and ran it for about a year and a half.

I just moved back to the Portland area and have been out of the hobby for a while. I would like to set up a small tank to keep me entertained. But first I am going through some equipment that I will not be using. First up are a few of my old skimmers. My location is south Salem. Send me a PM if interested. 1) MRC MR2 Beckett skimmer with two extra beckett injector assemblies. $75 This is an old MRC skimmer. The person I purchased this from said it was an early model by the original owner of the company. In any case, it is not pretty, but it works just fine. 2) PM bullet 1 beckett skimmer. $60 This is a great little skimmer. I know becketts are not very popolar these days but this has worked very well for me. 3) AquaC EV400 Skimmer. $200 This is a spray injection skimmer. It will shut off the skimmer when it is full. Right now I would like to sell this with one of the skimmers. I have two that I purchased used. On one the probe has been sealed with heat shrink. The other was stock, I believe. The one with the stock probe, quit working with a memory error. The one with heat shrink, the probe failed on me. I replaced the failed probe with the stock probe from the defective unit. I now have one working unit. I used mine for a long time before I knew about sealing the probes. It is intersting that the one that was supposed to be sealed is the one that failed. So right now the one I am using is stock and have not had a problem with it. I have thought about sealing it with some epoxy or something. With that said, I am going to replace the heating functions of the ranco with my controller soon. I still think they are a nice reliable unit, but for the price I think it would be best to spend a little more for a controller and get many more functions.

I agree that a ranco two stage would be fine. I ran a 1200W ac unit and heaters with mine. Only one stage active at one time. BTW, I have had one go bad, but it detects the error and shuts down both stages. It is some kind of memory error. Theron

You can use a ball valve. But if you do, it just needs to be a good quality one. I use a hayward valve and is very easy to make fine adjustments.

When I was using my EV400, I remember it took at least a week for it to start skimming reliably. When I first set it up I would adjust it and later it would overflow. It kept doing that then after about a week it settled down and worked great. So you might give it some time.

I would go with a syphon overflow. Both plumbed to the sump, but one has a valve. You adjust the valve so that one syphons the water and keeping the water level you desire. The second one is plumped to the height of the water. 99% of the water will syphon down the one with the valve and 1% trickle down the second one. The second one acts as a emergency incase the first gets blocked. That is how I have done it on my 300gal. It is dead silent. Theron

I recently purchased my first handheld gps a few months ago. I did some research and decided on the Garmin etrex vista HCx. The "H" series have a high-sensitivity receiver. It works indoors and even works in the plane when we travel. The price is pretty high when you add the city maps, topo maps, flash memory card, and device. The city maps are nice when we travel. Gives us turn by turn directions to address and places. If you are in the market for a high end device I would recommend this one. Theron

Wow Steve, if I failed to mention about a 8 ft tiger shark to my wife, I would be looking for a second room for myself that night. We got back from a trip to Maui and Kauai a few months ago. We stayed in a house next to Makena Landing. There is a nice little park there with bathrooms, showers, and small sandy beach. We snorkeled there almost every day. The weekends it was pretty busy with locals, but weekdays it was not too bad. Never made it to the Aquarium. I was having too much fun snorkeling to go. Now I wish I would have checked it out. Maybe next time. Theron

Wow, 270 is low calcium. When I have tested IO in the past is was pretty consistent at around 350. I have been mixing Oceanic and IO 1:1 ratio to get a better mix. I am not sure if I am going to continue, it would be nice to only have to stock one type of salt. Here are some pics of the water change pump as requested. I think what I am going to do is not worry so much about the levels in the new salt water. Add water slowly with the system above and check the levels of the tank and dose Ca and Mag when needed, in addition to the calcium reactor. My biggest problem is I hate testing the water parameters, especially the test kits with reagents and looking for color change. I have a hard time seeing the color change and usually need the help of my wife to watch the color while I add the drops. I need a system that I just check the tank parameters periodically. Theron
