Benny503
Ok, this is pretty much the same as asking for opions on a Glock or 1911. I really want to know what is this forum opinions. Please let me know if you have one time to setup the tank that you really like, which one would you pick? ARCYLIC or GLASS (nutty)?

defigart
Personally glass. However my shop will be having acrylic for holding fish.
reef-fisher
I prefer glass as well. I think acrylic is great for frag tanks because it is easy to customize. Im sure acrylic tanks have other benefits, but I cant have one with kids and how clumsy I am (whistle)
darrellw
I'd say glass, though there are benefits to acrylic. And I have an 20 gallon acrylic hex (FW) that I've had for 20 years, and aside from some scratches on the top from the hood, it looks great. And I've never been all that careful with cleaning it. fishmanmike01
I prefer glass as well. I just feel it looks better, especially when you get into the thick stuff.

Nyles
I currently have acrylic but I by FAR prefer Glass. I tried to get a starphire glass tank but the prices locally where way out of line for a glass box, I settled for Acrylic, still looks great but you have to be very careful and scraping the glass is a nightmare, I miss my stainless blade scrapers. madmike
depends on the size, glass for small....acrylic for big....
Mr S
I wish I had glass for my school big tank. Yesterday I had another kid put a long scratch in it from the mag scraper. Can't get mad because she thought she was being helpful but did not notice gravel stuck between scraper and magnet. Definitely go glass. Only draw back I know of is weight and usually you only move your tank once..............or twice hopefully.
JasonH
I like glass for the most part as well - but I live in fear of glass breaking. I know the chances are remote, but... Also, I wonder if the silicon seals will last 20 years.
drunkreefer
Acrylic holds more water under pressure but can become bowed just ask Joel at waves about his frag tank he had to add braces too! and also if your planing on keeping urchins long spine or any others they will scratch the acrylic while eating the algea off the walls of the tank. nothing beats a good rimless glass tank anyhow! Nyles
Long spine I have heard of but my urchins dont hurt the tank, I think its just long spine... at least I can say rock boring and tuxedo do not scratch acrylic in my experience. Nyles
I can see that happening, my urchin has had the same patch of zoanthid polyps on his back for 2 years now
Rugbyfish
Glass, there is no question. (Unless you are going so big you can't move it into your house).
kriswaters
After having an acrylic tank...and now a glass tank...I much prefer glass. The clarity is so much. It is heavier, harder to drill, and jeeze I hope the silicone seals last awhile! Kris
Benny503
That was easy, thank you all... Glass here I come :-)
Krux
if you go 1911 get the kimber with trace grips!!!! otherwise i would recommend the springfield xdm45 acrylic lets you do cold water, not sure if that will ever be of interest to you. CA2OR
I am thinking it is too pricey. They solano's make beautiful tanks as well but quite pricey there too.
