Smann
I guess I should title it "Containing" since we have no control over a healthy spreading coral,Anyway I have never had any luck with Xenia, in the past the colonies would multiply slowly then eventually die off. I've tried species from different LFS with no luck, After not having it for a few years and changes in my tank I bought some of the Pink Xenia that spreads (not the stalks) and it took off. I have tried to scrape it off the rock and reattach but I just end up with a mess, I did place some plugs to have it grow on but its going on and around them at a very fast rate. Unfortunetly i did not put it on a rock I can remove. What are some methods to keep it under control in its own area?
Michael7979
Place the rock on the sand. that way if it grows off it is easily removed.
dsoz
Kill it by putting a piece of hydnophoria near it. He he he... Almost as much fun as watching hydnophoria kill aptasia. Then keep it away from any place that you don't want it to spread. dsoz
Smann
I'll try that I have several Hydnophora starts, I cant move the rock. If anyone wants some hydno I have some nice pieces
missionsix66
I have pruned about 98% of mine. Sorta starting over. Pruning/manual removal is the best way IMO. I just grab a stalk and tear it from the rock. Usually, the entire piece comes off without leaving any remnants.
Smann
This is the kind that spreads and devides no stalk, I guess I'll keep scraping
dsoz
If it has no stalk, then it does not sound like xenia. It sounds more like anthelia. It can pulse as well, but it grows in a mat and has individual polyps that extend up from the mat. Either way, it can be a pain to get rid of if you want it gone. dsoz
Anthelia, not xenia. Still a pain in the butt, and will spread to everywhere you don't want it to be. dsoz
