Guest Ahbrit
and what tests do you perform? i ran the 300g for 9 months (500g water) i tested in the first month only. No coral deaths i had slight brown outs due to lights (recovered with the xm's) i sometimes would check the salinity on my water change 55g barrel though I ran a dual stage CA reactor (never tested the effluent)
andy
I'm testing the Nitrogen cycle weekly, and CA/KH every couple of days (since I'm buffering to bring both up). Specific gravity weekly. I should probably pick up a pH kit one of these days...
spayne
I will admit it, I'm bad at keeping up with taking tests. I usually watch my animals, and if they start acting cranky then I'll break out the test kits. FYI: I am a paid professional. Don't try this at home! (laugh) Okay, I'm not a professional... :p
H20cooled
I test my Alk, CA, & Mag weekly unless there is an issue then its daily. Other then those 3 I don't test anything else...
Ron Popeil
i never test. i do a salinity test with a refractometer when i do a top off...but really, thats it. i dont run a calcium reactor. i just....look. if my animals appear to be distressed then things happen, but im excruciatingly lazy when it comes to the tedious parts of this hobby. a 75 gallon refugium gives me this luxery i believe. Michael7979
Not as often as I should. Need to get more/newer tests kits also.
nu2reef-n
I'm a slacker also:)
SnowboardKid26
I only test nitrate, calcium, and KH. but recently I (had to) start testing Phosphate :(
andy
Now that I think about it, I guess there isn't much point in testing nitrates or nitrates weekly if you're going to test ammonia, right? Both of those lag ammonia, so won't spike unless ammonia does first. So if I'm checking ammonia weekly and staying on top of water changes the others shouldn't need monitoring? Guest Ahbrit
i'd venture too say an established tank would never create an ammonia reading unless you stock it high with new animals
180Bob
My test plan is: PH: I have a electonic monitor Ca: Weekly Alk: Weekly Mg: Weekly Nitrate, Nitrite, Amm, Si, PO4: When needed.
rmhuntley
I don't own test kits of any sort.
impur
Alk and calcium twice a day. I just hooked up my CA reactor last week. Before that i only tested when something in the tank looks off. But i do test SG weekly. Its a quick and easy test, plus i have a smaller volume of water so its easy to get out of whack.
