pantherguy30 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Wanted to add some pics of my tank build. Hopefully it will be filled within the next month???? Just have the face left to make and then the top. (rock2) Quote
reef-fisher Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Nice woodwork! Looking forward to seeing this progress. Im really liking all the cube tanks. Quote
reefhut Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 That woodwork is some of the best I've seen! Nice job. Oh and the tank's not bad either.(laugh) Quote
pantherguy30 Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 I used white maple, and purple heart for the top. The sides and back are a maple ply. The front face which isn't pictured is white maple aswell. I keep learning the hard way on building this thing. The stand has almost cost me as much as the tank alone. But hey its custom. Quote
180Brandy Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 You did a great job! Will you put some sort of finish on it? Quote
pantherguy30 Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Yeah I plan to put a clear or next to clear finsh on it when I'm all done. I'll have pics of the door in a few days. It will look like the top but with several pieces of stained glass. Quote
pantherguy30 Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Almost Finsihed Here are a couple pics of the door and some of the stained glass Quote
Smann Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 wow, beautiful inlay did you do that work yourself? Quote
pantherguy30 Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 yeah this all started out as 4/4 lumber. It's been a lot of fun making this stand. Can't wait to put some water in the tank Quote
JasonH Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Panther - I'm an aspiring woodworker myself, and I have to say I'm in awe. That is really beautiful, and very well crafted. I wish I could crank out projects like that. My hat's off to you, sir. Quote
pantherguy30 Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Whats funny about this project is I started it with a table saw and a biscuit jointer, and a router. I now have a 6" joiner w/ stand, a belt sander, 20 + clamps, router table, and a bunch of other small tools to get this thing done. It seems as if I needed a new tool for just about every step of this thing. After I get the tank started I promised my wife I would make a dining room table so I wouldn't get in trouble for purchasing all those tools. LOL Thank you all for the kind words. Quote
ThePremiumAquarium Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Agreed! Incredible work. I have been wood working for years and don't think I have done a project quite as beautiful as yours! Excellent! Garrett Quote
Frank Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Verey nice work...(rock2) Can't wait to see the whole thing..... Quote
impur Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 And now you gotta show us the table when you start it!!! (laugh) Quote
spectra Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 And now you gotta show us the table when you start it!!! (laugh) Whoa lets finish the tank first then move on(laugh) Stand looks good keep the pics coming. Quote
kriswaters Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Wow...I myself have built a thing or two...nothing to compare to your woodworking though! I as well enjoy how tools seem to appear as the project delves on! I have a ton of "one use" tools for specific projects! Keep the pics coming. Kris Quote
pantherguy30 Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 The stand is finished. Now it's time to put it all together. I should have it up and running by December. I still have to get a light and return pump for it but hey, I'm a little bit closer to putting water into this thing.(rock2) Quote
spectra Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Sweet looking stand(rock2) What type of light are you looking to run on he system? Quote
SamatSLS Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Wow, that's a really impressive stand. You should be very proud of that!!! I can't wait to see more pictures Quote
Ryan Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I really like the cube tanks! What are the dimensions of yours? Quote
vanz Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 great work! Can't wait to see more pictures! Quote
pantherguy30 Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Should have some pics up of the tank within a few weeks. the tanks inside the house now. Did a leak check on all the system and everything checked out! Just need to make a few trips back and forth to the local Lowes to fill up my tank w/ some 5 gal water jugs. Since I dont have a ro system as of yet. I'm running a Lumen Max 3 250w hqi fixture w/ a XM 1500k 250 w hqi bulb off of a PFO hqi ballast. I ran 1" flex spa tubing back to the two 1/2" returns all powered by the Eheim 1262 pump. I had to throttle the pump back a ton so my living room didn't sound as though I had a waterfall in the middle of it! Other than that I need to find about 40-50 pounds of live rock and sand and I'm ready to go! Quote
pantherguy30 Posted September 14, 2008 Author Posted September 14, 2008 Almost There Ok here are a few pics of the tank inside the house. I know it's not the best location but since the overflow is on the back it seems to stick out too far from the wall. (wife) Quote
spectra Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Tank is looking SWEEEEET(rock2) Just my thoughts but that pendant should be out of the canopy. I am partial to no canopys as my tank is that way(laugh) Dont hate me(whistle) Quote
