siskiou
I've had what seemed to be an orange monti cap in my 20H under PC lighting for several years. It's been moved to another tank with 250w MH plus vho actinics for a week, and has developed several green stripes and green edges.(scratch) Do Monti Caps change colors that dramatically in such a short time with different lighting, or could it be a stress reaction from the move? JeffP
I'd guess that the different lighting/wavelengths are exciting the zooxanthellae and some pigments which weren't reflected with one spectrum are now. Do you have pics of this "new" cap? I'd like to see it!
siskiou
I tried taking a pic, but it doesn't show very well in the picture (under actinics). You have to look really closely to see the stripes. The parts that are more fluorescent are the parts that look green under actinics. I just noticed it tonight, after the MH went off and don't know if it's also visible under full lights.
impur
Is this the same cap that you gave me a frag of? If so, it never turned orange for me. Its like a pinkish tan with purple polyps. Corals can and do change color given different environments, ie lights, water params, flow. Keep us updated on how its doing!
siskiou
Hey! Very interesting! Under full lighting, mine still looks orange/tannish. The green only shows up under the actinics. Wouldn't mind if mine started looking like yours! I'll have to transfer a piece into the 120G and see how it develops under the T5s!
