jayR
Just wanted to get a few suggestions on where everyone gets their salt from? PetsMart has a sale on Instant Ocean 160G buckets for $35.99. Is this a pretty good deal? I used to get Ocean Pure buckets for around $30 in California. Does any store stock Ocean Pure?
Michael7979
Waves, Upscales, and Saltwater-Fanta-Seas does for sure. And yeah that price sounds good.
Nyles
I used to buy that, its not really a special, its that price all the time as long as you bring in the internet price, they will honor it. It used to be 31.99. I have since stepped up to reef salt due to the small cost difference and much less hassle buffering it up to snuff. you should expect calcium around 260 and mag around 1050. so it will all have to be buffered

Nyles
Nice, but for $9 bucks more I get red sea coral pro... I still like IO but I am sick of buffering all the time.
shaywood
I bought Instant Ocean from local suppliers for a few years. You can certainly get it cheaper at some places. BUT, I never really had any luck with IO salt. I have since switched to Kent, which I get from Waves and my tank seem to be doing better. One advantage of Kent Salt is that it has Coral-Vite minerals included. If you were to purchase the salt and Coral-Vite separately, it would be more than just buying the Kent. jayR
Should I still buffer if it is only a FOWLR setup?
Nyles
Not required since your fish dont care what the mag and cal levels are, IO is perfect for FOWLR
impur
I'm mixing crappy IO with crappy Oceanic to hopefully get not-so-crappy-please-let-my-livestock-live results. Hopefully i'll be getting some red sea coral pro soon, 2 buckets to be exact
