Michael7979
Most any light will work. Most use a 6500k type of bulb. And alot have used those clip-on lights that HD/Lowes sells.
reef-fisher
thanks mike. but i forgot to specify i was looking for a flat fixture as i have limited height. i have an old reptile light, but not enough room for it. maybe an old pc fixture? will a NO freshwater flourescent work? Michael7979
It might not be the best, in terms of output of ligth, but light is light. Should be fine for now if you want to keep looking.
Ronjunior
I use an old flat 10gallon tank light with a 6500k spiral daylight bulb from Home Depot over my sump. It's a standard bulb screw in type.
Nyles
I have used this bulb for two years.... Interesting article http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html
undrtkr_00
That is a good article. Thanks for linking it. I have been wondering about the best color temp for chaeto. I wonder if a color temp even more blue (10k?) would be best?
Nyles
possibly, but then your really talking about a massive hike in prices for bulbs. I would stick with what you can get locally after all its a refugium, and you should get adequate denitrification.

Kevinmc
I have a 45 GAL. tank used as my sump /refugium and I am wanting to add more light then my current 10,000K CP tube light fixture that sit end-to-end on top of my tank. I am looking to have an assortment of plants in my refugium and my returm section. What is the most cost effective lighting to fit this need? I was planning to add one 6500K for the refugium and one for the return section that I plan to fill with plant life. Thanks Kevin
