Vance164
I'm looking at 2 different used skimmers. One is a hydor performer model and the other is a simplicity dc 240. Anyone have experience with these and which would be the better choice. Thanks in advance for your input
Blue Z Reef
I'd get the simplicity DC skimmer. DC pumps are quieter, the in sump design doesn't require a feed pump like the recirc does, and the body shape is more ideal.
Vance164
Thank you for your input so you do not feel recirc. Is that much better than a cone style? Sorry doing some research and so far the only pros I've seen is recirc has the water longer to potentially skim more and can be ran out of sump
Blue Z Reef
I had a recirc before my current DC in sump skimmer. From a potential leak standpoint I much prefer it in the sump. As mentioned it is quieter as well. I did not notice any performance difference between the styles. Both can be adjusted to meet your skimming needs. Also the DC pumps ramp up slowly so your skimmer likely won't go overflow crazy after you restart your main return pump. Some people have to buy a delay switch or program it into their controllers to achieve this.
